    Hey Guys,
I don't have dreads at the moment but hopefully soon I will have them. I was curious about natural dreads. I was going to get a salon to do my dreadlocks but they wanted to charge me $85 an hour and they said it would be at least 6 hours, thats $510+. So.... I was interested in natural dreads, How should I go about making these? Any information would be great.

    Thanks in advance Cam

id just go natural, BUT its all your decisio, your journey.

But imo natural dreads would be some much more fulfilling, thats my 2 cents worth :)

Also I live in Australia, for natural dreadies I've heard you cant use shampoo with residues or conditioners, which means im going to have to go buy some new stuff.... What would you guys recomend?... Any help greatly appreciated

Any natural shampoo will do, not sure of what shops you have in
Aus, but if you have a lush over there or a Bodyshop or any
natural saop/shampoo kinda place then go there

    Alternatively go to www.knottyboy.com or
    www.dreadheadhq.com

& you can get some from there

natural locks are way cool..and it'll work better the curlier and thicker your hair is

my hair was too straight and thin for natural dreadies

You could backcomb it, but since you have curly hair, it'll lock up and you'll get COMPLETELY natural locks.

But keep washing it, those dirty myths are just that - Myths.

So if you have kinda thick, wavy hair is it possible to get natural dreds? And how do you go about getting them. I never comb my hair, but it doesn't seem to lock up.

Well, my hair was straight, and thick, and I never brushed it.. it never locked up on its own.

    Backcombing.

    www.dreadheadhq.com has good backcombing tutorials.

Or you could section your hair and rub each section with a wool mitten or sweater until it gets really knotted up.

    Then you wait.
Dreads are a journey, they take lots of time and patience.

just wash your hair, at first with something that dries it a bit & shake it out eventualy you'll start getting some knots & just start seperating them into individual dreads, so u dont get 1 of those massive single dread type things..
u could also seperate em into sections, & just put beads, wraps or peyote stitches on em to old em in place & reventualy it'll dread..u can do the same by putting rubber bands in the ends but then u might find they become permently embedded
