It looks scared, hurt, lost and hungry, but i was told not to feed it or get too close to it because it might be rabid and it might lunge at me. Besides, it wont come out. Should I get animal control involved?
Possums don't usually get rabies - check with your animal control agency though to be sure. If you need to use your car, just beat on the side as you walk by, get in, slam the door, honk the horn, turn the switch and quickly release it before the car starts. This should get the little fella moving. We have a couple we feed - don't have any problems with them at all. The outside cats give them room and the possums return the favor.
if it doesn't move when you get int he car and make a bunch of rucus, it probably is sick and needs care. THEN you call animal control.
aww poor possum, we dont get them in england, i think if i ever saw a real life one i would have to take it home - but then again i dont know anything about them
they're pretty creepy, i think. we had loads of them at my mom's house. UGH! they were HUGE, too. monstrous, chemically mutated oppossum. nasty. with their creepy, beady little eyes...
aw i love possums! if he is not coming out from under your car it could be that he is just too frightened to move...even with tons of noise he may not move. the only thing that will get him to move if thats the case is if you leave him alone and when he feels there is no threat and all is quiet he will go back to the forest or wherever he came from. there was one in my garabe pale once and i lightly tipped it over so he could get out b/c he was trapped in there like it was a well. then he just sat there..i was like...helllllooo....now is your chance to go free why arent you moving? not food, nor any sort of anything could get him to move and i thought maybe he was hurt and so i left for two hours and was ready to call AC...but when i got back he was gone.
I love possums.. I find them really cute, the way they wiggle their butts across the road when trying to get away from your car.
