I need help making more intricate appliques. Is there a trick to it? Like cutting them out I guess would be where I need the advice. Is there a special thing you use to cutting out the tiny details? Did that make sense?? Thanks, ladies!
Cre, one thing I can't find a good answer on, do you do anything to the edges? Or just cut them out and sew over them?!?!
Oooh.. I'm just getting into appliqes. I was wondering how you girlies hold down the teeny pieces so they dont fly around when you sew them on.
I use Heat & Bond Lite (I have found that the med/heavy gums up my needle too much). Cut out the pieces from the bonded fabric, piece them together then iron. Once it is all in place, I stitch it down. Nothing special to the edges.
AHah... I've just been using a litttttle bit of white glue and some ironing.. It works for now.. I suppose I'll set out for some fabric-bond glue then. Thanks.
that heat bond stuff rocks...my appliques were shit before i discovered its joys... i always soak them in fray block too before i send em to their new homes... i have no clue if this actually helps them stay together but i reckon it cant hurt eh? (cre i still say eh...lol) Yes we must see the end result.. good luck
i use scissors to cut out the big stuff...if i am doin a celtic tree or knot tho i have an exacto knife i use...mucho handy
thanks guy.... I was worried that I really needed to roll the edges or something. I use heat bond, I'll have to look into fraycheck.
