Yesterdat I noticed something in my underwear and it was like my discharge or whatever you wanna call it but there was ALOT more of it not OG tho,any ideas of what it was ?
started on any birth control recently? sometimes your body just overproduces, or if you sit for a while then stand it can seem like a lot at once rather than dispersing at a normal rate. If you get any funny smells, see a doctor, otherwise it's probably normal
You know I'm curious. The whole period thing is still so mysterious to me and yet I feel like I should know. All I know is it involves blood spewing forth at random times once a month, and that's why y'all wear tampons. But I want to know specifically... does it all come at once or in intervals... is it runny or thick, does it come out in a day or two or three and is it just blood or does this "discharge" also have other stuff in it like snot or what? If any of you kind ladies would please describe your period to me in as much detail as possible, I really want to know. You can even do it in a PM if you're not comfortable posting it for everyone. I'll gladly describe to you anything involving the male anatomy you may be hazy about! (if you want)
haha rigamarole... i've explained this to many of my more curious guy friends. first of all, it doesn't 'spew' forth, it just trickles slowly, like if you had a small cut or something. in the first day(s) of the period, it may come at a heavier flow, gradually decreasing to only a small amount of blood at the end of the period. usually women use a pad in her underwear, or a tampon inserted inside her to soak up the blood. the blood is liquid like ordinary blood. as well as blood, the uterine lining or endometrium comes out, as it is not needed. this is a layer of blood vessels that would have become the placenta if the woman was pregnant. it comes out as dark clumps of tissue, something similar to blood clots. eventually the flow of blood decreases and the girl only has to wear a thin pantyliner to catch any remaining blood. some women have very long periods, some have very short periods. some lose a lot of blood, and some not very much at all. every woman is different. i've read that the average period lasts 6 days but that seems really long to me! mine is only about 3 days. hope that helped. i know if i was a dude i'd want to know what the hell a period was! hope all the talk about blood didn't make you queasy. aren't our bodies funny things..... imagine bleeding once a month, how odd!
Yes, thank you... that's the other thing I was wondering, how do you know when it's totally over? You say the blood flow tapers off, but if it's anything like when I take a piss, there's always a drop or two at the end even after you shake it off that will hit my underwear (and if I'm unlucky) the front of my pants as I'm zipping up! Does this ever happen to y'all, where you think you're done and it turns out there's just a wee bit more? Oh and does it go all day long or does it kinda start and stop throughout the day?
yes, at the end it would slow to a point when there is no more blood coming out, then later in the day a little bit may come out. even during normal period time this is common. there may be a few hours when it seems like no blood is coming out, then it starts up again, the flow might be heavy then light then heavy again. i'm not sure what causes this, maybe muscle tension. at the end of the period this 'spotting' usually this goes on for maybe another couple of days and the girl wears a pantyliner, then there's nothing more coming out and the period is over. apologies to willow for the thread hijack.
Well it all sounds very interesting. I wonder how you could incorporate it into art? Like what if you stretched a canvas on the ground and walked around on it all day without anything stopping the flow... I think that would be really cool. I've never seen period art before.
There isn't nearly that much blood released... for some reason I'm thinking that I read a typical woman loses a pint of blood in the duration of the period, but to me, that sounds like a shitload. I'd say it's at the most, half of that. But don't quote me on it.
We are all different...Ive heard the average woman only loses tablespoons...but I know before I was on birth control that I lost WAY more than that. My periods were abnormally heavy though, and the BC really helps with that.
I find my blood isnt' very liquidy, it's much thicker. I think it kind of mixes with the natural lubrication we have as well and takes on an almost mucous-like texture. I'm kindof looking forward to my period soon, I haven't had one in two years (depo) so it'll be interesting to experience it again.
i know what you mean. i missed mine just for a couple months while on the pill, i was traveling. it was curiously nice to get it back.
A heavy discharge is normal for some. I have it like that myself, and sometimes I have to change my underwear it is so much. If I go out I have to wear panty liners, but at home I'd rather just change that wear a piece of plastic all day. Unless you suspect a yeast infection (weird colour, smell, itch) it's probably just normal.
yeah i know, cause who wants to bleed once a month right? i guess it's just a psychological thing, having a monthly period is part of being a woman, being on a regular cycle and everything. it's also a kind of emotional release, perhaps. i don't know... what do you say, imhurria? maybe i just mean that it feels good to go back to being 'natural', healthy, the way a woman's body naturally works.
btw, did you know that menstruation is linked to the cycles of the moon? the body will respond to the cycles of the moon and match up with them in the cycles of the body, if she spends time outside. i have no idea how this works, but it does. also interesting is how women spending a lot of time together will gradually merge cycles and begin getting their periods on the same day. this is also true - when i first moved in with my roomie, we were on different cycles; now 6 months later we always get our periods on the same day. very weird hey?
it's more of a curiousity thing for me. When I hit my third period I'll probably be all crabby and grumpy about it again time to invest in some midol. I get atrocious backaches with 'em. I think for a lot of women it's very satisfying to get your period because it means you aren't pregnant, nothing unexpected is going on oh yeah, and about periods timing themselves when women live together... it's somethign to do with the hormones you release when menstruating. don't know how well it works out when you're on the pill as well though.
