lately the frequency & intencity of natural disasters has been increasing like crazy, last year florida was pounded with 4 hurricanes back to back doing massive destruction, & this year its repeating in the gulf coast with increased furor, wiping out entire cities
thats ony some of the drama, with tsunamis & earthquakes & tornados all on the rise .

the hopi & other tribes have prophesies about the comming earth changes (google hopi 5th world prophesies) starting shortly after 2000, & the basics of it are the earth is getting pissed at our misstreatment of her & will strike back, wiping out most of the people who dont know how to live in harmony with her..
to me this is alot more plausable then the christian apocolypse theory because those prophesies were written by people who believe the earth & animals & everything was given to us to use as we please & no abuses we do to the earth matter because a mystical being controls everything
where as the tribal cultures live more in harmony with the earth & its natural rythems so are more likely to recognize when the earth has had too much & is ready to rebel.

scientists & meteorologists have confirmed that we are in a period of increasing disasters
katrina & rita might be only the beginning of a pattern that totaly destroys all costal areas & lowlands
worrying about the price of gas may soon seem like the least of our worries

    your opinions?

Winds are symbolic of CHANGE, and that we must all do. The greatest power in the world, in the elements, circles - it whirls, it spirals - like a hurricane.
She may be more "sick" than pissed, and just like us, when we have a virus, we have to cleanse it off. We get a high temperature, we throw up, we try to expel the germs in any way we can.
I agree some of it seems like karma coming around, except it doesn't normally happen that quickly (unfortunately!).
I have two words for you - Global Warming. What a shame the US spent the last 10 years trying to bad-mouth it, and to convince everyone else it didn't exist. It's kind of
poetic justice now that a hurricane is heading for the oil fields.
What exactly DOES it take to wake humans up?

the planet earth is a sentient being ....it could very well blow 20 mt. st. hellens style ash volcanoes , and global warming would become a mini ice age ...... i think we may justly be angry , but the earth is certainly aware , and capable of reacting - surviving .

in case you hadnt noticed... America isnt the only nation guilty of killing innocent people and starting unneccesary wars... or for that matter the only nation guilty of contibuting to global warming... and name me a government not guilty of being ignorant and greedy.?? and do you seriously believe that the effects of global warming are only confined to America.?? somewhere along the way you got deluded..!

No one here said that global warming was only affecting America. I said that the US was trying to downplay the effects, even the existence, of global warming. It did not sign the Koyoto Protocol that was signed by most other countries. Unfortunately all of us on this little planet will have to pay the price.

[Hi Soaringeagle This is a copy of a leter I have just posted to the white house and to that numpty of a president George Bush, I do hope you dont mind me butting in but the earth is at the top of my thoughts.
My Name is Andrew Gray and I live in Bonnie old Scotland and I am writing to ask you personally to listen to me. I have an Idea that could make you the most popular person ever to have being president of the united states. I can only e-mail you as I live so far away from you and wish I could meet up with you to discus this matter as it is an emergency now and we cant turn our backs to it.
You can no longer ignore the fact that Global warming is beginning to take control because of the mindless disregard to our planets delicate balance and it is only going to get worse the longer we pretend nothing is wrong!! We Really do have to start reversing the effects that are happening all around the world and not just in your country with regards to the hurricanes getting stronger and more devastating to your countries economy. I have written to you before asking for your help regarding the need to get the world starting the biggest tree planting operation and as usual I am met with the same kind of apathy the rest of the world shows. Nature with our massive help can repair what we have already damaged, All man is guilty of this mass ignorance and it is time to change our ways of living or the problems all over the world are going to get worse and probably spell the end for us all.
Please get in touch so we can discus this matter because we really do have to get this message out to the whole world now and we don't have much time left to get this plan it to action before it is to late. I am trying to save the world from it's own stupidity and blindness. With kindest regards

and South Africa has always had a sane, egalitarian, open government. Geez.. learn your own history, landrapers. What does it take to get those diamonds out? Ecologically and socially speaking, NO ONE should buy diamonds....but back to Soaring Eagle's comment.
Humans are only one species on the Gaia organism...who's to say we are supposed to be here much longer?
I think the organism is healing itself, as Goddess Om states.
The Gulf of Mexico is really warm this year, in excess of 89 degrees in some places and that is storm fodder.
The winds and water have always resculpted land. Look at Arches National Monument!
Or the rest of the canyon lands.
Just because we are smart enough to bilge pump water (out of NOLA, out of the Netherlands, out of the swamps of Florida that are today Orlando) doesn't mean we are smart enough to limit population in shaky areas, right?

"Standing on a mountain top in Utah, seashells at your feet
Ten thousand year ago/ could it really be
where you're standing was the sea?"

So why do we think the continents will always look like they do today?

i remember one day a couple yars back on the news there were stories about glaciers melting due to global warming, & stories about the government denying that global warming had any real affect on it, but then the scariest part was a 5 second mention of a super tiny country i never heard of, population under a million, that was being totaly abandoned because of global warming
awhole country nolonger exists, yet the only mention of it was hardly even noticed or remembered by anyone

There isn't much that is unusuall about these storms and things. The Atlantic goes through cycles that cause more hurricanes some years. It's like a ten or fifteen year cycle or something. Scientists dont understand climate very well yet. But to think the earth is angry or sick is foolish. The earth has been hit by asteroids, global methane fires, and ice ages. Not that our actions are good, but it's just another change. I'm not sure I buy the whole Gaia deal either, not as a conscious entity (an integrated system, sure, but does the earth think? doubtful). Even if I did, this still wouldn't be retaliation. It'd just be the "search" for equilibrium. But the equilibrium will be a new one.

Global warming is real, though, and could be making more violent weather. Stomrs are a way of dissipating energy. But no one knows, and it's not likely that this is retaliation. The world doesn't work that way. I don't think that is a useful way of looking at this.

well i'd say your correct about the natural fluctuations, & the 15 year period, however scientists say theres a larger fluctuation with a period of a few hundred thousand years, they estimate that the last time we had a period of instability like the one we're entering into was before the birth of civilization (saw it on the discovery channel late at night) they estimate the period can last 100-300 years, & it will bread alot of ''super storms"
& i agree about the point of seeking equalibrium the earth simply cant support the human population ..
the whole "earth is angry" idea came from tribal cultures who beleive all things have life & spirit, & doesnt need to be taken litteraly to support th argument that since we live so far outside of the natural equalibrium something has to give to return order..

I dont think She is angry. I think She is just doing what She does,
and maintaining Herself. Not so much out lash towards us, for
what we have done, but more correcting what we have done.

When I discipline my children, and clean up their mess,
i am not angry at them, just doing what I do as a father.

The Earth is just doing what she does as a Mother,
and lives are lost by all of us, people, plants and animals,
all of Her children have losses, but that isnt Her intent,
    just a side effect.

    Nicely said, heron.

Put another way: Earth Mother doesn't get pissed. But she does get even.

MY OPINION, IT IS NATURE, PURE AND SIMPLE. NATURAL CHANGES WILL HAPPEN, AND ALL OF THE SCIENTISTS IN THE WORLD CAN NOT CHANGE THESE NATURAL PHENOMIENONS.

Remember the old margarine commercial, "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature!"

is that fool WITH mother nature?

anyways, I agree. though i also agree that we industrial humans are having a major effect on lots of things. We've destroyed fisheries, polluted whole oceans (imagine it! the whole fucking sea!), as well as our drinking water and breathing air. We're cutting down forests, turning up grasslands, draining wetlands, damming/leveeing rivers...all the while pumping millions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere (to say nothing of methane, an even "stronger" greenhouse gas...thanks to our lifestock).

Ok, so that's a long list and not all of it even. the point is, we are throwing the dynamic equilibrium out of whack. Storms are a way of dissipating energy, and if there's more energy (due to a warmer atmosphere/ocean) then the storms will be stronger. We have a direct hand in this with our short sighted lifestyles.

But that's only one factor, mind you. There are other cycles and causes, normal high and low pressure systems, various ocean warming cycles (remember el nino/la nina?). I doubt that the earth is pissed off at us and is trying to destroy us. An earthquake is just an earthquake; there have always been earthquakes.

Another aspect to consider: there are just too many of us! A few hundred million living as we do now and earth absorbs it. But upwards of 7(?) billion?

We would have not destroyed so much of the environment and caused Global Warming if it were not for the greedy oil cartels and corporations who have made sure that the use of new sources of energy would never get off the ground. Truly, it is they who have poisoned their own nest. It is just a shame that we all have to suffer because of it.
There should be more than enough for all of us on this beautiful planet to live happy lives full of abundance...if not for those who take all and give nothing back, and whose greed and lust for power can never be satisfied.
Here in Australia the oil prices skyrocketed, but the moment people started pressing the government to step in and do something to stop it, all of a sudden, despite their previous "excuses" the petrol prices returned to what they had been the week before. Bottom line is they don't want to be regulated, so they just keep ripping us off just as much as they can get away with.
The petrol stations fill up their tanks with fuel they pay one price for. Then they play with the price we pay on a daily basis, and no one holds them accountable at all.

In America, our government does what it wants - they do not listen to the people.

That's the funny thing. Our government is just as useless and corrupt as yours. It kept refusing to be part of an enquiry. But just the "threat" of an enquiry into petrol prices was enough to scare the oil companies into dropping their prices FAST.
I guess that is people-power for you. If enough people speak up, even if the government digs its heels in, someone figures their free ride looks like being threatened and they back off.
Truly, our government is crap and the only think they are good for is crawling up Bush's arse. We are no better off. Our Prime Minister is a little weasil.
