Getting up in the AM, quickly brushing my hair, and walking in the 5 acres of woods that surrounded the property...sometimes it was foggy, sometimes not, but it represented freedom to me to greet the world so early in the morning.

Freedom to play, to sit in a mudpuddle with my dog who loved water.

I remember we would all pile into a couple of cars and just drive... we never knew where we were going...we'd just drive.... sometimes we would head for the coast and other times to deep countryside... almost always though we'd get lost... :D ...it was just fun and freedom....
cant say i've felt that sort of freedom for a long time.....

Back then in the village in Toronto it was hanging out as late as we wanted, getting fried out of our minds, sleeping in as late as we wanted, painting flowers on our faces,
defying the establishent, promoting love and peace, having sit-ins, love-ins. Just a bunch of peace loving kids doing our own thing, No adults to tell us what to do. Not allowing anyone to get us to conform to the the mainstream of society. Oh to go back to those years. At least I still have those wonderful memories!!!!
    Peace and love :)

Some of the best times I have had until now were times of freedom-new expression and experimentation-Surfing as a teen in San Francisco-(very cold)-moving from home and getting my first apartment in San Francisco-(WILD)-traveling the U.S. and Europe-("high" adventure-) making a legal living and not dodging cops-(too stressful)-freedom from any and all obsession's and desires-freedom from I-ME-MINE- and "me first"--and finally freedom from all mind and body altering substance-all in that order-from 65' till now-

I lived in New York City until I was 18 - then I moved to Florida with my dog, Cokie. Having to deal with the cops in Florida, as compared to the cops in New York City was quite a culture shock! In New York City, if they caught you with any illegal substance, they would just take it from you and let you go. When I moved to Florida, I was stopped and questioned FOR NOTHING! Just because I had long hair (and still do), I was constantly being stopped and asked for ID. They NEVER hassled you that way in NYC!

funny but i always imagined the NYPD would be tougher than Florida... strange how one has a preconcieved idea about a city or area... but then i guess they saw so much of it in NY that they became more tolerant?

That's a big part of it, pabsy. There were so many hippies in NYC, that they were left alone. In Florida, it was like they had nothing to do. They kept thinking I was a runaway. I ended up keeping my passport handy so that they could, in fact, see that I was 18!

Thanks for the compliment Lucy, you are so cool too!!! I know what you mean by the cops in N.Y. as it was the same way in Toronto....the cops didn't bother us little hippies chicks either. It must have been a drastic change moving down to Florida. Wow how brave you were to head off on your own, just you and your dog cokie. We sure wouldn't do that nowadays . . Rock on girlfriend !!!
