I have wanted to get a tatt for sometime now, but I am concerned about the ramifications of its placing in the future. Basically I am looking at getting the word Sarasvati written in sanskrit on my right wrist - that being the hand that I write with. It will only be quite small, so easily covered with a wrist band or a watch. Anyway the point is, everytime I get in a position to actually get it done, someone makes me start second guess its positioning with the usual "what about when your 80" questions! So, and I am getting to a point, does anyone have a similar tatt, and do you feel it is a problem where it is. Btw, this is not my first tatt, and I am know that when I am 80 this tatt will still have a whole heap of meaning to me. My god I ramble and end up making no sense!!
I've got a tat on the inside of my right wrist, the tattooist wanted me to be sure that I wouldn't regret it in the future, your tattooist will probably ask the same. In my view, who gives a flying fuck what anyone thinks! It's your body, screw them all!
the right wrist is a very appropriate place for that tattoo, a lot of meaning would be lost if you put it somewhere else. i think it's an awesome idea for a tattoo. just make sure that if you're relying on a watch band or bracelet to cover it for work or whatever, that it's positioned on your wrist where a watch band would normally, comfortably, be. if you have to cover it for work, you wouldn't want the tat in a place where your watch would slide the whole way down your arm, or slip up, leaving it visible. make sure it's in a place where you'd be comfortable having a band over it for 40 hrs a week. do you usually wear a watch on your left or right wrist? would you be comfortable wearing a watch on your right wrist for a while? anyway, if you're worried about being able to cover it, put a watch securely on your wrist and mark its position. maybe do that a couple times in the name of consistancy... then see if that position is suitable.
hindu goddess of the arts, she gave mankind writing. the right wrist is a good spot for it, cause that's the hand the poster writes with. if it were on the hip or an easier place to cover, the meaning might not be as powerful. you use your hands to write, paint, sculp, play music, etc... it's just not as appropriate when it's on your back.
Yea, like she said!! I thought about getting in on my right shoulder, but it just wouldn't have as much meaning! I am a writer - so thats why the 'sarasvati'.
Just to throw this out there, isn't there some sort of skin cream that can temporary cover it up like make up? sry, if that was pointless.
Yes FallenDreamer, a thick concealer/foundation can work well for hiding tattoos if applied properly. There are even a few made especially for the body. Good suggestion!
i agree entirely....but (i know ive told this story on here a million times) i have the word "Revolution" on the inside of my right wrist, and people honestly rarely notice it. raaaaarely. I wear braceles and stuff sometimes that don't even necessarily cover it up, but regardless of whether im wearing them or not, people rarely notice it. It's a very awesome place to have a tattoo. it's my favorite one of mine. holds a lot of meaning, both tthe word and it's location.
Why worry about what it will look like when you're 80? You just said it'd still have a heap of meaning, that's all that matters. Stop listening to people that make you second guess, you know what you want.
