If the Bible is the word of god and god is perfect, then the Bible must perfect. interesting..... Quote: 1. Statement: “If the Bible is the "Word of God" and God is perfect, then the Bible must be perfect.” Let B stands for the Bible and W for the Word of God, G for God and P for perfect. 1. Statement: Let B, W, G, and P be families such that W belongs to G. If B = W and G = P, then B = P. Proof: Let’s assume that W belongs to G, B = W, and G = P. We must show that B = P. This last equality is saying that given anything in the Bible it must be perfect and given anything perfect it must be in the Bible. If you follow the argument one can prove that B = P. But this is not true because we all know that not everything in the Bible may be perfect because men and women are not perfect and the Bible was written by men and women. This is enough to show that the original statement was not generally true and the author must be convinced that it was not appropriate to conclude that the Bible is a fraud because there is nothing to support such a claim. Any attempt to prove something is perfect is doomed to failure; one of such was an attempt by some great mathematicians in the past that mathematics was complete and perfect. A brilliant mathematician Kurt Godel in 1939 was able to show that mathematics was indeed incomplete. He proved that there are facts in mathematics that cannot be proven. The same thing can be said about the Bible. There are facts that are true but our minds cannot perceive them. God did not fax the Bible to humans through a fax machine nor did He drop it down from the cloud. It is entirely a work of men and women; authentic believers do not deny this. This fact is what makes believers read it over and over because it touches their lives. The book is not for God. It was written by men and women for men and women.
everything is an assumption from this end of the spectrum. Anyone who claims absolute knowledge is a fool
The word "perfect" is used in many different ways: "perfect fifth", "perfect square", "perfect asshole" etc... If it has a general meaning, the word "perfect" would seem to mean "in exact conformity with its conceptualization". Something imperfect is therefore an approximation, with some discrepencies from its conceptualization. If God were nothing more than a concept, than God would indeed be perfect as God and God's conceptualization would be the same thing. However, If there is a real God, over and above any concept we may have, then God does not conform to any concept and is therefore not perfect as previously defined. I am inclined to believe, in accordance with the soulful and colorful stories of the Bible, that God struggles, cries, and laughs with the rest of us.
it is impossible for anything to be perfect since its all interpretation. i might think that a singer sings perfectly but someone else would think they are the worst singer in the world. if someone says god is perfect then another person might think god is the most horrible thing to exist. this is a reason i dont believe in god.
Sorry but when I saw how you was working that out like a geometry proof I stopped reading it, I love math but I hated that class.
I know baptists believe that you have to take the entire bible as truth of leave it all. There is no cherry-picking through it for your favorite beliefs. My bible teachers were always adamant that the bible had no contradictions and was perfect.
Lutheran theology is that faith and Scripture should always be questioned, and worked with. God doesn't want robots. That's why we've got free will.
WRONG!!!! i go to a baptist church.(im made obviosly, im only 16) but ive read the bible through three times and i dont know the half of it still, but what i can tell you is that the bible does contradict itself. alot. one book it says that something maybe ok, and then one minute it says that it may not be. it can never give a straight yes or no answer, it just has to hint at it. and this tells me that saying something might be wrong or right means that people have to pick and choose what they want. that is all religion is basically, picking and choosing what you believe is right.
Then what is the point of the concept (and belief in) perfection? ..... if humans can't comprehend it, who is it for?
I didn't mean every individual that attends baptist church thinks that. I am saying that the belief that the bible is without error is a basic part of baptist doctrine. The church and school I went to followed it quite strictly, but your's may be more lilberal about it.
i didnt mean that you were wrong about the baptist doctrine. yes they do believe that. i meant that the baptist doctrine is wrong. sorry if i didnt word it right.
