to lust after albums that I cant afford.

Anyway, so I'm having a bit of a Belle and Sebastian phase at the moment - I really want to get 'If You're Feeling Sinister' and 'Push Barman to Open Old Wounds' - so I searched and searched, but i couldn't find them anywhere.

then, on my way out I glanced at the alternative metal section and yep, there they were. Apparently, according to this store, B&S are alternative metal. I mean what the fuckety fuck?

(and it wasn't just a CD put in the wrong place either - there was a whole B&S header/sub-section within the alternative metal section.)

ooh, and other alt metal bands include Wilco, Interpol and The Shins. apparently.

    does this mystify anyone else?

thats really messed up...alt/rock perhaps, but alt/metal is kind of an odd place for bands like these, especially S&B

I know it's not always easy to put a band in a certain genre but this is ridiculous :p *adds alternative metal to the genre's he likes*

I'm not going to tell anyone that they can't download music but the sound quality of MP3's sucks compared to a cd :(

only use Kazaa to check out bands that are new to me and if I like them enough I'll buy a cd :p

exactly...well, i make a list of CDs i need or I might die...i'm far too broke to actually afford them though...
still, it's my birthday in 2 weeks, maybe i should just accidentally leave my list out where my present-pals can see it ;)

not really.. there's a huge difference between vinyls and mp3s, but there's almost no difference at all between music tracks on cd's and music tracks that you download.. obviously they had to be ripped from a cd to be downloadable, anyway.

um yeah, that's why on most programs you're allowed to know the quality of a file before you download it... [IMG]

128 kbps (i think those are the right letters) is CD quality, you can find much higher quality files on every downloading program available.

it's not even about the sound quality...I just get more of a buzz from having the actual CD, with it's artwork and so on than I do from having the songs on my computer or burned to a CD
Sort of like the difference between having an actual book of, say, poetry and having files in word, or a bunch of printed off sheets stapled together

128Kb/s isn't close at all to cd quality my friend. and just because a song's ripped off a cd doesn't mean it stays cd quality. mp3s are compressed 99% of the time, and they're compressed by cutting out certain audio frequencies, which degrades the quality.

*blinks* if 128 kbps is cd quality then a 320kbps download should sound nearly 3 times better than the original recording ? [IMG]

99% of the files on Kazaa are in 128kbps and the sound of them is awful...320 kbps is lisenable but still not the same as the original cd.
I dare you to find a few 320kbps songs that you also own on cd ,decompress them, burn them on a cdr and compare the sound...the MP3 completely misses the dynamics of the original recording.:(

I download live music (and I buy CDs to support the bands....granted most bands I listen to would be THRILLED to hear I found their disc in a shop.....) and MP3 is a taste. Shin & flac are the current way to go.
The tonal range is limited by the compression, and since I already have hearing loss, I want to hear everything I possibly can. Sort of like not being willing to give up purple just because reds are thin to me, make sense?

I personally can't really tell, nor do I want to. 128 is fine for me, I only have 56k internet anyway.

It all depends on the original recording.. though I haven't used Kazaa in years, I stopped using it because it sucks.

it doesn't really depend on the recording for Kb/s, i've downloaded albums that play at around 400Kb/s but sound like crap, they just weren't compressed as much when they were ripped from the disk.

i agree with you 100% about kaazaa sucking. i remember when i used it, like half of the songs i'd download were unlistenable or incomplete. sorry about you having dialup, i had to use it just up until last year. getting broadband seriously changes your life. so much free stuff you can download! haha.

oh and whatever you say chris.
