    Help all moms!

Baby woke this morning with a big red diaper rash like i have never seen. I have babysat over the years and came across diaper rash many times, but not like this. It covers the baby's entire diaper area. He's only 3 weeks old. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Air! Lots and lots of air!

Put something waterproof under him and just let him lay naked all day.

You can also try a diaper cream. I got some Butt Paste and Desitin at my baby shower and the Desitin works pretty good. The Butt Paste seemed to aggrevate her rash though.

I hope he gets better soon!
    Poor baby.........:(

Try zino sp?( name of the cream) That I have used with my children.
If it does not work. I always took my kids to see dr and ask for prescripted cream. it works everytime i ask for the prescribed cream.

    Good luck

Keep them very clean and give them lots of air - also look at how much fluid the baby is getting is they are not getting enough the urine will be concentrated and will scald the skin.

yeah lots of air, sudocream works well as well. and instead of bum wipes the midwife told my sister to use cotton wool and boiled water. the wipes can irrate the skin a bit. so maybe it. its worth a go. hope he gets better soon, poor baby

Are you using cloth or disposables? Breast feeding? I don't have any answers for you, being as how I am a new parent my self (almost 3 weeks). I am just curious.

Could it be a yeast infection? Are there little bumps-kinda pimply looking? If so, you need to get a prescription anti-fungal.

I like using A&D ointment. I concur about not using baby wipes right now. It will sting her little heiny. I would use a warm wash cloth.

And yes, let her air out as much as possible!

Thanks to all! On top of all the helpful tips you all posted, the mother next door who i babysit for brought me over some of her homemade diaper salve. She said it works wonders for her kids. Today the baby's rash is indeed looking better, and baby isn't screaming as much when i change him. Being a mother is definitely about more than just changing diapers or giving a bottle.
