As some of you may or may not know... They're really starting to crack down on priests molestation in Philadelphia, and there were at least 65 arrests made over the last couple of days. And one of them was a priest at the nursing home where I work. I've actually known the guy for about 5 years now, because I volunteered on Sundays to play organ at mass. (Even though I'm very much against Christianity and organized religion, I still want to be a good person and I do that for the old folks.) I gotta tell you guys that this is a mindfucker of all time. And man does this make me worry about a friend of mine from high school, who is training to become a priest. Well ya know, Christianity's gotta take a look at themselves and think, maybe controlling the sexuality of priests and nuns isn't such a good idea after all. I think that they should let priests and nuns get married to each other. Think about it, though! They wouldn't have sex with little boys or girls, that's for sure, and if they're already "married" (stupid terminology) to God, why not marry each other and let your sexuality grow instead of being trapped. But if no one agrees with me on this please I'd like to hear your take on it.
The trouble is that if christians actually did take a good (and honest!) look at themselves, they would not see anything resembling what was supposedly taught by the supposed founder of christianity. More likely they'd see the reflection of the "other" guy who has taken control of christianity -->>
I think the child molesting is part of their culture....in short, they don't care or they would do something to stop it.
I think what's happening with priests in the Catholic church is dreadful. I pray that they will someday understand that our sexuality is to be embraced. And everyone who replied so far said "I wish Christians would realize that..." Ordained clergy can be married in other denominations...just not Catholics.
I don't understand why priests (and nuns) are not allowed to have a full life. Man and woman (as they so love to say*) are made for each other. Whether by God or Nature, it is a part of the human experience to find love and even have sex; it is not wrong or dirty, and a healthy love/sex relationship would not be "distracting" to the love of God. God, according to Christians, lives in us all, no? Also, how can a priest ever understand his congregation if he has zero experience with love and sex and marriage? Who are they to give advice or set down laws, when they don't even know what it's like? And how can they offer help, being in a place of ignorance on the subject? How can they be a shepherd if they set themselves apart from the rest of us? The shepherd lives in the field with his flock (yeah, and some screw sheep, but I'm not going there...). Celebate priests are like having the shepherd living back at the house while his sheep fend for themselves. *please lets not turn this into a debate on homosexuality.
it seems odd that one of the 7 sacrements in Catholicism is marrige, yet preists and nuns don't take part in it... although i think they are letting some marry, they just cannot get a higher rank thatn something, im not sure which one...whatever...
a lot of priests are no better than cult leaders.............. hide behind the white collar and spout a load of shite while they commit endless amount of sins themselves . materialistic bastards ............ god knows this man .........
child molesting is not part of the catholic culture. i would like to see statistics if anyone has any about what countries has the most child molesting priests. I am from colombia and i'm pretty sure that if a priest down there touched a kid his balls would be cut off and stuffed in his mouth while he hung upside down from a tree.
Guys, come on now. Yes the Church is guilty, and very much so, of ignoring abuse. Yet not all priests are Child Molesters and I very much fear a witch hunt. There'$ an incentive now to te$tify again$t your former prie$t.
yup. money drives just about anything. i think there IS a tendency for young men to hide within the church. some are truly looking for healing, some are looking for power. it's human nature.
Oh it goes much further... Pope Adolf there has sent investigators to every Catholic seminary in the US to "Determine evidence of homosexuality within the Catholic education structure". That's not too obviously homophobic on the part of the vatican, is it? Oh, and most pedophiles are NOT homosexuals. So how about it, Your Emminence? Can we separate pedophilia from homosexuality and investigate the one that does more damage? Doubtful...
this whole topic is hiarious!! actually, plenty of priest/boy molestations have been documented since the beginning of catholicism. even some weird queer i knew wants to be a priest. didnt yall see that south park episode where theyre all mad because theyre getting caught. then the one south park priest is trying to stop it, but the rest are like WTF!? "where else are we to derive our sexual pleasure?" or sumthing like that, lmao. what do you expect man? i'm not sure if thats the one with lemmiwinks either, but it was funny cuz its true like the rest of the shows and maybe not all collars, but most
I haven't heard of this problem existing in churches like Eastern Orthodox, or the protestant sects, where men aren't forced to surpress their sexual urges. Might their be a connection? Nah, I guess all them catholic pedophiles are actually sodomites. Doesn't say much for the kinds of people the Catholic church attracts for their clergy...
Schillebeeckx says that, first in the fourth century came a law that forbade a married priest from having sexual intercourse the night before celebrating the Eucharist. However, when the Western Church began celebrating a daily mass, abstinence became a permanent factor for married priests. good article http://www.touchstonemag.com/docs/issues/15.3docs/15-3pg25.html
i don't get why priests can't get married. any religion where you have vows that deprive you of basic human needs are just dumb. vows of silence, celibacy, fasting. i see how they can be useful but no sex ever is ridiculous
Less than 2% of priests in the United States are child molesters. Thus, that means 98% of priests are good men trying to do the right things. In my paper about 2 years ago, there was an article about a Methodist, "Minister" who had sexually abused a girl in his church. The article was about 6 inches long, and on the inside. Had it been a Catholic priest, it would have made front page. There is a lot of Anti Catholicism in the media.
Tell me where does it say that Ppriests should not marry or have a relationship in the Bible? It doesn't, infact it says every man should be married to one woman. What you are seeing is the catholic church has created a man-made law outside the Bible and that is where the trouble starts.
