Do you allow anyone to call you something other than your name? I sometimes call a friend of mine "Dahlink" (like Eva Gabor in GREEN ACRES) and I will use the term Sweet Pea to a select few on instant message. I try to stay away from food names as I have discovered some people don't like being called Pork Chop or Mellon. :)

i used to say hon a lot...i still kind of do but that is a kind of a regional lesbian term of endearment i learned...kind of like sugar or hon is in the south U.S. i also would say sweetie or dear...but yeah...food names are good to avoid...especially when dating someone with an eating disorder...that tends to upset them.

My bf has called me "dear" and I've called him "honey."

We've got a few other names we use as well, but because they're plays on our first names, I won't print them here.

Sometimes I'll call someone "deary", but only when I'm being sarcastic or joking. I got that from my mom.

As a general rule, though, I'm not big on pet names because I don't really like it when other people call me by one. I don't mind it if you're my parents age (or my parent), but it's really weird when people my own age call me "honey". I wouldn't tell anyone off over it, but I don't really like it much. I have a name. It's not a name I'm particularly fond of, but I prefer it over "sweety" or whatever.
