Hi everybody! I cant believe how hard its been to find fellow hippies. Anybody watch the Dylan interview last night. It was so amazing. Joan Baez is looking a bit old though, sadly. I miss the 60's and 70's and the mindset of the peoples then. Nobody loves or cares about anybody these days it is so depressing. I feel like a stranger in a strange land....I wish I could turn back time when everybody loved you and everybody was trying to become a unified spirit of people, where there was little judgement and lots of hugging.
There was a lot of good feelings and intentions between people then, a lot of naivete too and lots of excessive substance abuse. I killed many a brain cell and it took me years to get my head straight, well maybe it still isn't. I'm not being anti drug. I'm anti anything abuse. I think I have a lot of good memories of that time period. I just can't remember for sure. I think I remember calculating something like 3 to 4 hundred acit trips, but that is, in retrospect, probably a figment of my imagination (halucination). The true number was probably somewhere between 40 to 100 but I have absolutely no idea. I do know that I was one wacked out, wild eyed person back then (person? what's a person? whats a then? who am I? what's and I? whats a what? what? ?? ? ...........)
Hi Peacelover, Glad you found us too. I watched the Dylan jnterview, I loved his music so much, and of course I still do. Joan did look older but I look in the mirror and realize that I do too. Lucky me I just don't think of age. Maybe I'm in denial but hey who cares. LOL It is too bad the way society has turned out. So little caring for one another nowadays...its sad. I wonder if we had all stayed in the loving caring lifestyles we lived if things would be different today. PEACE, BAN THE BOMB, MAKE LOVE NOT WAR!! I wonder if we were just too young to think we could really change the world or was it just the establishment brainwashing us to make us believe we couldn't. We will never know. The best we can do now is to instill love and peace and caring to our children and hope that they can pass it on and on!! Oh to back to that era with what we know now. At least we all have our great memories of those days...how lucky we are to have had that experience. Love and peace to you.
Peacelover,Village Sam.. Thanks for your kind words about the sixties.. I was 20 in 1966 when Jimmi Hendrix sung Hey Joe discovered the real hippie spirit in Amsterdam.. travelled from 1969 till 1976..and still did not find.. the peace we were fighting for in the roaring 60's.. I guess life is an endless struggle.. being a hippie is a state of mind..a lifestyle.. and nobody will ever touch these ideals we carry in ourself.. but I'm glad at least the hippie movement did not die.. and it will never..look at all the young hippies here.. who carry the same ideals then our sixties ideas.. love..peace..harmony to all of you Emiel..
Hemp boy, Yeah..travelling..was a big part of my life&freedom.. the road was a school for life..met nice people.. good and bad experiences all along.. just like life..A+B..black/white..good/bad.. just all let me know..if you need travel information.. nowadays..still keep that gypsie spirit.. I'm off on my motorbike with some friends.. every week-end..either to Holland..Germany..France.. nobody will ever take that away from me.. in the sixties hitchiking was no problem.. things have changed now..the sixties spirit is a bit low.. but anyway...we'll keep on moving..in a positiv way
hey peacelover, here's another hippie from the 60's and 70's, names angel, go by hippie wise. those were the days weren't they? but i'm feeling it's coming around again with all the protesting and even the younger generation getting involved. yu can find alot of cool peeps and hippies on www.stayhuman.org this website is for spearhead and outrageous reggae/rock/funk band and the lead singer is michael franti who is a total political activist. hope to see you there. peace and love angel (hippiewise)
hey the bob dylan interview was wicked.....but hey i dont see life as a struggle.its only a struggle if you let the bastards grind you down.......live how you wanna live and so long as your not harming anyone its cool........i believe in total freedom to be your self
howdy folks, I got lucky with the Dylan documentary a friend of mine had tickets to see it at the Bell Auditorium theater at the University of Minnesota on Sunday the 18th. The Bell is just a small theater an there was only a 150 or so folks there and it was the world premeire, free tickets off the internet. I think theres all kinds of hippies and beautiful folks still around, the magic has'nt died its the distraction of the negative stuff in the mainline press that makes it seem like it has. Just look at the work the rainbows are doing down in waveland, thats loving compassion in action it don't get much hipper than that.
Blu Raven, Sure..the hippie spirit will never die.. but really in the sixties..it was a different feeling.. I recall seeing Procol Harum in concert here.. there used to be a few protest singers activ here in Benelux..Ferre Grignard..Boudewijn de Groot..Armand they made songs against the establishment and capitalistic society..Dylan..Donovan..Joan Baez..were great composers of anything anti war or anti peace..Haight Ashbury in S.Francisco.. Woodstock..Jerry Rubin..Ginsberg..Huxley..Baba Ramdas...T.Leary.. well..it has been a while..but still..in my opininin..the festival of Woodstock in 1969 made HIPPIES a symbol for eternity.. In these days..no computers..laptops..consumption society like we witness now..and still..the spirit of real love and peace.. has spread its good vibes..all over the world..let's keep it this way.. I like to thank all the young hippies here on this forum for the way they keep the good vibes going..they get all my respect.. and I'm sure from all other old hippies here as well.. Old hippies are old in age...but they stay young in their ideas.. and they damned fought for it..that's what i mean,Sensamelia.. that live is a struggle..I have gone through a lot of shit.. but I survived...and I can walk away with my head high.. sure..I made a mess of things sometimes..but..who didn't?? Mankind will always be associated to wrong or right.. the sixties proved that there were ideals to stand up and fight for.. we all did these days..and I don't know really..if we won.. against a society which nowadays again turns to war, power, greed, political games..and whatever one can call it anyway..:& A revolution...is not a bed of roses..but an every day struggle.. between the past and the future..it will always be like that.. Education...is measured by degrees..knowledge by facts.. wisdom by questions..the problem with society is that fools and fanatics are too sure of themselves..while the real wise are plagued by questions...which they cannot resolve.. I sincereley hope that the peace..make love and not war slogans.. which we shouted in the sixties..will become a reality.. or is peace not possible in this world??due to political games.. greed for power..well..just can anyone answer me this?? Jimi Hendrix once said these beautiful words..which I never forget.. when the power of love..overcomes the love for power.. then the world will know peace..what a beautiful quotation.. I wish you all peace..harmony..inner strenght...and love.. Emiel
reading these posts...I watched the PBS shows this week too, and think back on something Pete Seeger said about the song "turn, turn, turn..." how he added the line "I swear it's not too late..." So true, everyone, it's not too late. I especially mean this line for the younger folk, as well as us olduns, it's not too late. all it takes is people who really mean what they feel, I think. Sometimes I can't express all that I feel but maybe you know what I mean anyway.
the bob dylan thing on PBS, or whatever it was? *doesn't have cable, doesn't watch much tv at all, anyway*-- I watched something that spread over 2 days with my Dad, who introduced me to Bob Dylan many years ago. =). How exciting.
hey old tiger, i like what you have to say. i have a friend i write to all the time that lives in belgium, it sounds so cool there. my husband and i have always wanted to go to visit, mainly the marijuana bars, sounds like it's alot better than the uptight usa. i was a hippie too in the early 70's, those were great days, so exciting and so much going on, but i see it happening again with all the protesting against this unjust war in Iraq and our dicktator president bush and his crew. the younger generation is picking up where we left off. i have met alot of cool peeps on other chat/protest boards. i think there will be another revolution, but this one will be televised.
I do not think there are anymore hippies. Or maybe they evolved into something else, like the dinosaurs evolved into birds.
Jim, I'm a Hippie, we are still what we were, a leapord cannot change their spots bc, time has left them in the dust. We did not leave the planet. We just don't pile up in groups as much bc it makes it too easy for the blue meanies to take us all down in one big swoop. We left the cities to find peace way from the violence and predigests. The ones that stayed are still fighting the cause. All of us fight the cause everyday that we exsist, just by being who and what we are. To be a beacon in the night for the waysharers that may pass, to give a helping hand where and when it's needed to get one through the rough parts of our fantastic journey. To shed the light of truth when injustice rears it's ugly head. Hippiness was not a fad, it is a way of life through the Spirit of Being. We do not bring threats of war, we bring the message of Love, Hope and Strenght in Unity. W a lead by our Spiritual Nature and not the nature of material wealth. We came to liberate not to bind. I don't know what else to say, we being here is proof enough the we do in fact exsist. Brightest Blessings sh
at age 56, i am still an unrepentant hippie-yippie flower child....i have not compromised on drug laws, sexual mores and my attitude towards that nazi lowlife george bush and his wars..... the love-ins and the smoke-ins still live in our hearts!!! we are still out fighting the good fight!!! look at the late great rosa parks as an example!!! i guess old hippies never die or fade away!!! old hippies are still everywhere!!! WE ARE EVERYWHERE
'Tis true, and unfortunately hammered with ever increasing restrictions, shutdowns, 'no-smoking' legislation (in a smoker's cafe, go figure) mainly due to a) pressure from the US b) pressure from the current conservative (morals and values) government under Harry Potter look-alike Balkeneinde, and a few more reasons such as wanting to drop the 'drug haven' image. Still, with enough coffeeshops open and no crack-down or direct priority on cannabis (statistics show the lowest number of smokers per capita of all EU countries, not to mention the US), it'll be alright for a while. I'm always thinking you tend to take things for granted easily and only when I read how smokers are persecuted in other countries, particularly in the US, I'm glad I don't have to worry about a swat team busting down my door. Can't believe I found a forum with old-timers; thought I was the only one who hadn't sold out over the years.
Truly a great interview! Mr. Dylan knows how to talk to the media, doesn't he? It's wonderful to see this fine collection of kindred souls here.
