i think that a fair amount of predicting the future of the human race and be done with two easy steps

    1. pick a theory on how the universe started (or continues to exist, etc.)

    2. extrapolate on eventuallities inherint with that theory

one example would be the cyclic big bang theory, where the universe starts and a singularity, blows up, expands for a while, contracts, and starts all over again (repeat times infinite)

there are a number of quick observations that could be made from that theory. One being the a human society cannot last forever, as eventually it would have to get pulled back to that singularity, no matter how many planets are colonized. YOu could also put to rest concepts like nano-bots able to make any matter or energy into itself and thus taking over everything at an exponential rate, as if they could do that, they would have already done it during one of the previous infinite cycles, and we wouldn't be here today.

i call it "paradoxal fortune telling", figuring out what the future might be like by determining what is impossible. of course if you're base theory is wrong then its all for nothing :sunglasse

  2. 1. predict a likely outcome (i.e. I predict I'm going to shoot a dead turkey)
    2. do it (shoot a dead turkey)
