i have long "u" sounds, not a long "ooo". As in, ouch, couch, pouch. So, it's abOUt, not abOOt. But, I never noticed it until I moved to Ohio... and then it was others that noticed it for me. My father does sound like an extra from the movie Fargo though... but again, didn't notice until I was in Ohio.
no. at least not that bad. compared to your own accent, though, you might notice more of a longer 'u' sound, like icedteaprincess said. but it's not that bad, unless maybe if you're in the maritimes. sometimes i can't understand a word the newfies say.
No. In the Toronto valley they say "out" "about" etc. like eh - ah - ote all slurred together. "Eh, ah, i'm gowen ewt to the gradj fer a bit, eh?" which is where it came from.
irongoth, howzit goin eh. wudja bring me a brewskie from the twofer uh blue ewt theer? eh? eh. ehhhhh...... lol, that cracked me up. i heard a little bit of home right there.
Yeaaah.. I say About.. Ab~Out. Our old roommate was from Labrabor (NOT NewFoundland.. there's a big difference) and they do speak with quite the accent.. but I don't remember them saying aboot?
I worked with a girl from Newfoundland.....she had a heavy accent and would say she was going to "map th' fler". (mop the floor) She was hard to understand at times. Different slang and all. But, no it is not a "Canadian" thing. Just like in the US there are different accents....example, Texas and the South.
lol Since our room mate had lived in Ontario for a while, her accent wasn't as strong, but he parents came and visted us, really sweet people, but sometimes.. I had to just smile and nod.
This reminds me of someimes when me and my friends will make fun of how some americains will say roof like "ruff"
i knew a girl from northern ontario with the thickest accent. She'd say eh and aboot. All other canadians i've met say 'about' like americans do though. what i want to know about south park is why Canadian jaws arent attached to their mouths
