I have no pride in my country. No really...I don't hate my country, I mean...I like my country. We have nice trees and kangaroos and the people are usually...ok... But...when I sing that national anthem...I don't even remember the lyrics... That pretty much says it all...
man, you can't just hate our country? we live in one of the best places in the world......would you rather live in a third world country or a place ridden with war and disease? think about it man peace
here ya go...start singing girl... Australians all let us rejoice For we are young and free We've golden soil and wealth for toil, Our home is girt by sea: Our land abounds in nature's gifts Of beauty rich and rare, In history's page let every stage Advance Australia fair, In joyful strains then let us sing Advance Australia fair. Beneath our radiant Southern Cross, We'll toil with hearts and hands, To make this Commonwealth of ours Renowned of all the lands, For those who've come across the seas We've boundless plains to share, With courage let us all combine To advance Australia fair. In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia fair.
my associations of australian pride are more involved with the physical aspects of australia rather than the cultural or political aspects. i find some australian culture particularly crass but i love it... i love it all. i am proud to be australian because the grass is greener on this side of the fence. its actually a browny yellow colour because we are in drought but thats ok because we can live without water. realisticly i do love australian culture. i talk to lots of exchange students and everything seems so obscurely different overseas. i simply couldnt handle it. australians love everyone, or it is courteous to love everyone. im really tired but yeah i would hate to live anywhere else (not hate just prefer here) and i think we have by far the most advanced and universally benefitial culture in the world
i spent wonderful 12months in australia and it's such a fonderful place.but i also noticed that living somewhere else than finland for a while, gave me a new perspective of it. and i looooove vegemite, that's one thing among many others that aussies should be proud of. give me a home amongs the gum trees, with lots of plum trees,a sheep or two and a kangaroo,a clothes line at the back, veranda at the front and an old rocking chair....dadadadaaa.
duuuuuuude, I didn't say I hated it! I said I liked it...just don't really know where I am with it. No, I wouldn't want to live in a place ridden with war and disease...no one should have to live in those conditions...unfortunately people do...and that just sucks...which is why we have the 40 hour famine...and for some reason I didn't do that this year! I'm a monster! Anyway, ahahahahaha...why do we even have a second verse? Thanks Bedlam...if I had a printer I would cherish that forever...but unfortunately...it's broken And it's simply wonderful to see that people love this country, and it's culture. I like vegemite too...on toast...with margarine. Hey, did you know margarines bad for you? We need to use butter people! Or we'll all get cancer and die!!! I like this country...but when someone hacks on my country, I don't get angry...or feel hurt...actually, the most I'd do is laugh and say 'Yeah, that's right.' I guess it's just me...but yeah...have a nice day!
I try to be grateful as often as possible for what i have,, i dont want to take it for granted, but its so easy to slip back into complacency <sP**..
Are you kidding me? People in their 20's, 30's and older forget the bloody words, it's typical. It in no way mean you hate the country matey. The question is, DO YOU FEEL ANYTHING WHEN YOU HEAR IT ? Then you'll know the answer Whether you hate this land or not.
"Beneath Our Radiant Southern Cross" etc is actually the 3rd verse. The real 2nd verse is all about Britain, when the country changed, we kicked that verse. It's like how we changed our anthem from "God Save the Queen" to "Advance Australia Fair". It's about Britain becoming less and less a necessity.
I think that with all the political hoo-haa and military action we've had in the last few years its becoming harder to respect Australia, we have so much at hand that can't be called anything less than great, but our leaders are marching us toward a greater economy while stripping us of what makes us great as a society. much to sigh about.
i dont know why but ever since i was a kid i loved our anthem.... and all songs related to Australa - like waltzing matilda and heaps of others - that could be because i grew up in the bush and affiliated strongly with the words thou..and i learnt the convict history, ned kelly, eureka and so forth.. those things about australia make the outback more intriguing to me... Although, i might add, since becoming a city slicker i am embarrassed by my de-rooting. for example (damn consumer world) on sunday night when the anthem was being sung before cowboys and tigers game i started to prepare for "O-oh say can you see, by the dawns early light...." haha no kidding..i was sick with myself!
well pride comes before a fall..... ancient philosohers did not believ in the word pride as an ethical or virtuous characteristic.. it hink the meaning has altered some...
Ah, i know all about you country boys. I was born in Melbourne but of my family on both sides are from country Victoria and NSW. Plus i had a close mate once who was from the country. He and his mates were quite the hooligans but in a good way. Getting up to all sorts, rootin' sheila's 9as they put it) and getting pissed while fishin'. I loved being on the back of a ute at night eating pizza, riding their dirt bikes. They can be wild but you wouldn't find a more trustworthy group. They were ready to defend me "in a certain situation" before they had met me. And i have to mention the flannies, especially the ones wear the sleeves are cut off
im sorry to break it to you...but im a girl...i certainly dont fish or "root sheilas" hahaha...if it's any consolations your username is kinda boyish too! i really should put my gender up there in my profile...to avoid further confusion
I dunno..it came to my mind too easily, like i had been brainwashed by american culture or something (Who'd a thunk it?):&
Ah sorry abut that, you just reminded of my mates that's all and they were blokes so..... The nature is still the same though and that's a great thing.
