In the late 1960's while living in Charlotte, NC, I had the opportunity to attend live concerts of some of the greatest bands in history. Among them were: Led Zeppelin Jethro Tull Grand Funk Railroad Creedence Clearwater Revival Steppenwolf There may have been some others, but that's all I can recall right now. Which one was the best performance? I really can't say. They were all great! I think though I was probably the most impressed with CCR. There was no opening band, no announcer. They just walked right out on stage, grabbed their instruments and started playing. And they played for at least 2 to 2 1/2 solid hours, one great song after another. And they weren't dressed fancy in any way like some of the bands of that era. Just blue-jeans and normal clothes that anyone would wear at the time. Just totally blew me away.
My Pink Floyd ticket is the least visible one of the batch! Add to that some Tull, Jeff Beck, and Big Brother and the Holding Co., Canned Heat, Procul Harum, and a few others.
i wish i could have been alive back then.....anyways...i saw deep purple, and robert plant in concert this year...tahts it for the psych era...
I well remember the Led Zeppelin performance I saw at the Charlotte Coliseum. Robert Plant was absolutely sensational. I'm not gay or anything, but I do remember the way he moved his hips to the music as he sang, I thought that was so sexy - and what a voice! And once during a break I ran down to the restroom, and while I was in there they started playing again. I actually couldn't hear the music, but the walls started vibrating, that's how I knew.
They aren't really late '60s, but I saw the Coasters live at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk about three years ago, and ALMOST saw Simon and Garfunkel the same year.
I saw Clapton a few years ago. It was a great concert. He closed the set with an extended version of "Sunshine of Your Love"
The Who Jethro Tull Beach Boys Canned Heat CS&N CSN&Y Bob Dylan Quicksilver Messenger Service That's all I can think of right now.
