hi there...just wondering if anyone knows anything about or is affiliated with SHAC? its an animal rights organisation...they have a website which iv checked out but im more interested in the people in the organistaion than the facts on their site. basically my little brother is heavily involved with shac and last month was arrested and held in a swedish prison for protesting. understandably im worried about him and although i totally agree with his moral issues and thoughts on animal cruelty im in the dark as to whether he's got himself into a good animal rights group or not. i dont know any other memebrs and the only other guy ive seen from SHAC was a representative on the ITV news last night who in my opinion gave SHAC a really bad impression. if anyone could shed some light on this organisation ythat would be great. also any advice on how to deal with a very intense some what extremist animal rights protesting little bro! love luchi xx
Well in my experience, and also underlined by some of the views posted on this forum, basically when you're young you tend to end up going down the more extremist groups because in the very least when I was that age you tended to think it would get results quicker, etc. rather than more traditional groups which are "just talking shops". That's not to say that SHAC is extremist - don't know much about them to be honest - but if you think that he's a little extremist himself you need to explain to him that taking things too far can often have a negative effect to the cause and often turn away people from getting involved with campaigning because of the bad publicity it brings (even though most reckon the media is against them). At the end of the day though it's his choice and he will probably lose interest when he has to earn a living, etc. I realise I will probably get shouted down by activists on here, and you will probably get some abuse too for not immediatly flying to Sweden to bust him out of the clink with high explosive before moving onto a secondary target of an animal testing laboratory... ho hum!
Clip him round the ear, and tell him to stop being such a twat, and you can tell him I told you to do it.
SHAC is one of the most extreme animal rights activist groups there is... atleast I've read. They will actually like stalk targets and beat them with bats outside of their house, follow them to work, All kinds of crazy stuff...
