It's amazing how extreme violence is becoming nowadays not only country to country, but person to person, teen to teen even child to child... last week at a high school in my county a girl was stabbed in the jugular vein and killed by another student, the girl murdered was a 15 year old mother. These are freshmen!! killing each other!!! A teacher of mine once taught at that school and was telling a story about how a student was actually stabbed right outside of his classroom. The other day a girl was thrown down the stairs at school and really injured. At my own school a student got in a fight with another student and ended up bashing him over the head 3 times with a golf club. I've seen fights at my school that left puddles of blood on the floor, people bleeding so bad they are trailing it down the hall.

And no I dont go to some inner-city school where violence is more prevalent than usual, i live in a small beachside town in Florida and it blows my mind that there can be so much hate around me and so many people actually willing to do physical harm to people around them for no good reason.

    Will it only get worse?

Sorry to hear about it. I know it's very depressing. Many schools now have police stationed in the hallways. A generation ago that was unheard of.

Just because it wasn't heard of doesn't mean it didn't happen. a generation ago they were lynching black people at pic-nics.
People tend to look at the past through rose-colored glasses.
Truth is is that we have become less violent in everything we do, be it warfare or racial tensions.
besides, teenagers are crazy, god only knows why we do what we do.

Over the weekend a girl was stabbed to death at a football game, and people getting jumped or getting knives pulled on them happens all the time. We do have police in the school but they are fat and incompetent so, likewise, if you want any type of drug at all, my school is the place to get it cheap. I live in a planned community (not technically a town, because it was never incorporated) founded in 1964 in the DC metropolitan area.

    Blame liberal lack of parenting.

It used to be you mouthed off in class, it was the paddle, until you were sobbing that you were gonna behave and you changed yr damn ways.

And your parents gave you even more trouble when you got home.

Then along came Dr "no discipline" Spock.

I don't agree with hitting kids - there's better ways to parent and I've never had to hit mine. And never will.

But I'm on my kids like a hawk - with positive guidance most of the time, but trouble when trouble is required.

Parenting is work - maybe if more people in this country actually tried it we wouldn't have these problems.

High schools didn't have police officers stationed in the hallways a generation ago, whether it was heard of or not heard of. Things are different today. Not to say there wasn't violence in society, though.

Now the police are basically being given the task of parenting. Recall the little kindergarten girl in Florida a few months ago who was handcuffed by the police. Somehow I don't think the police are going to be able to raise the kids in the U.S.

because theres violence in t.v., video games, movies, iraq.....
idno man its sad. It isnt too bad at my school. Theres a cop there too but i think hes mostly there for the drugs. THers some fights and stuff but not to serious. Everybody freaked out when a kid brought a gun last year but he was just trying to be "gangsta". Those hip hop ppl are making it look cool too. another reason i dislike rap.

The worst school shooting occured in the early sixties, at the university of texas belltower.
The worst riot occured at the turn of the (last) century, in greenwood okalahoma.
Was liberal parenting to blame for these?

Face it, we're a violent species, and people don't need video games to give them ideas. They didn't have Grand theft auto in Rwanda.
The Serbs didn't have gansta rap.
Chechnyan terrorists didn't need Marliyn Manson to tell them to take an entire school hostage.

You guys seem to be putting the horse before the carnage. It isn't a violent video game that inspires violent behavior, it's the other way round.
lookit the Romans and their coleseums fer chrissakes, or Christians and their witch burnings, or the Catholics and their Inquisition, or the Mayans and their sacrafices.
Seems to me that most societies have had violent forms of entertainment, the only difference is that in ours, everyone gets to go home afterwords.
    I think that's an improvement.

i think there should be more violence in schools. survival of the fittest, population control, AND it makes things more exciting and entertaining, wheres the downside? im really lookin forward to violence in church though...
the only school shooting that comes to mind thats really bothered me is the kent state shooting. got chills when i saw a documentary about it......
