I have been in a spot of bother... Recently I have planned to use contraceptives but I am not sure whether contraceptives are safe or not since I have seen many people suffer due to the misuse of contraceptives. Please could anyone tell me what things I should keep in mind while I take this contraceptive" -------------- Jelon
Are you talking about oral contraceptives? It all depends on your body chemistry and the type you are prescribed. I've been on oral contraceptives for the past two months and I won't lie to you, those two months were absolute hell for me. The first month I got sick to my stomach for about 12 hours after taking each pill most days, then the second month, I no longer got sick, but it warped me completely emotionally and I got to the point I almost killed myself. I'm not a suicidal person, either, so we knew there was something wrong there. We're currently switching to the Patch to see how things go with that, to see if my emotional rollercoaster was a result of the hormones altogether or just brand-dependent. But unless absolutely necessary, do not go to Planned Parenthood or any of those type of places for your birth control because they do not do much of a health background check to see what brands and types would work best with your body. Go and talk to a trusted doctor for that. But, keep in mind, that was just my body's reaction to one specific brand. It's normal to get a stomachache after taking them during the first month, it's your stomach's reaction to having hormones pass through it, but if you eat something right before or right after you take it, it usually helps a ton (and sometimes eliminates an upset stomach at all). You might gain weight, but regular exercise and sensible eating habits will keep it from being too much, you can expect your breasts to enlarge (mine grew an entire cup size), and you might get pretty emotional sometimes, but if you ever start feeling suicidal or out of control, definitely go back to the doctor. Good luck! And don't let my story freak you out, lol.
i think the scariest thing w/ oral concraceptives is that they can easily cause blood clots in the legs, that if not discovered early, can easily go to the heart and kill you. and you do NOT have to be a smoker for this to happen. i take them though.... i take a kind that is low hormone though to try to minimize that.... i used to get HORRIBLE cramps and clots the size of gulf balls and when i started taking bbp's... that all went away. priceless to me. however, since i started the pill i have worst pms then before.
