If you haven't watched the new peta2 video, "Roadmap to Lunch," get to it at http://www.peta2.com/OUTTHERE/o-vegfoods.asp?c=st45 . The video features veg dining tips from members of Fall Out Boy, Alkaline Trio, Phantom Planet, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Rilo Kiley, Finch, Yellowcard, Taking Back Sunday, and Death Cab for Cutie. It is awesome!
why does this matter? i know it's a popular thread, seen many of them over the years, but why does it matter if some star is veggie? Will it really keep somone off the hamburger?
NBA Legend and famous Deadhead Bill Walton is a vegetarian. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Mickey Hart and some other members of The Dead are vegetarians.
The only thing that it does for me knowing certain celebrities are veggies...is those are the ones whose movies i watch....So basically, them getting themselves on veg websites and magazines is an excellent marketing tool for them...Not to say that they are just using it as a way to create a larger fan base, since most people wouldnt give a shit. My favorite is Woody Harrelson.....I dont really care much about celebrities, but he has some good causes. I do try to keep up with him....more because I have a respect for a man who has such a big name, yet takes the time to give back to the community in such a huge way. I have posted this site in another thread, but I think that it is relevant here....http://www.voiceyourself.com/ that is woodys organization.
its ridiculous but alot of people here in america, particularly young people, WORSHIP celebs. so when these people talk, people listen. there's probably alot of teenagers and preteens that think the guys in deathcabforcutie are just the coolest thing ever, so if these guys are promoting veganism, atleast its planting the seed. its good to see famous people atleast using their voice for something good.........i personally cant stand this celeb culture we have here in the US.
I agree with you about the celeb culture, we here in England are not far behind you now, i do not particular care who is veggie in the celeb world, and who is not, i know that i am, and i did not feel i had to aspire to them, to be one, my influence came from myself, admittedly having them promote vegetarianism/veganism cannot be a bad thing, as long as they are doing it for purely selfless reasons, and not to line their , already over-lined pockets. David Duchovny [ X-Files fame] is veggie, and was not mentioned on the list someone put a link too. I do wish food manufactuers would be more specific when listing ingredients on their products, i have found, to my disgust, many hidden animal by-products hidden it what is supposed to be for vegetartians, and have looked on the Google search engine, and found many comprehensive lists of e numbers that are animal in origin, and other animal derivatives, like cochineal, a pink food colouring produced from beetles. Give it a go over in good old USA and see what you come up with.
