Yesterday I crochetted myself this nifty turtle neck/shrug thing, and it's totally wicked. It needs some more work with the arms, as I made them too tight, but I can fix that in a couple hours. Once it's fixed, I will post a pic. Only one problem.... My thumb is swollen and actually visiably bruised from all the crocheting! I can't move the thumb joint at all without serious discomfort! BAH! Think I might be benched for a couple days...I am totally on the Disabled List! Anyone else temporarily Out of Action? Have any minor or major crafting injuries to share? Maybe we should come up with somesort of Crafters Medical Insurance? haha!
I seriously sliced my thumb when I was tearing the seam out of a pair of old jeans. Good thing brian saved the day. I was so shocked I couldn't move, so he ran for the medical kit. So lucky to have a guy that's not afraid of blood and all that! but, because I've not had someone do that to me in so long, I felt like a 5 year old! HAHAHA
I get the thumb pain from crocheting too much all the time. Sometimes I'll get pain up through my wrist as well. Wish I knew how to prevent it other than not crocheting...
I occasionally have minor burns from doing lampwork beads, but nothing serious so far *knocksonwood*I hope I will get nothing from my raku experience I will start soon... *knocksonwoodagain*
I've cut myself with that wicked little seam ripper more times than I can count . Fortunately, I havn't sewn over my finger yet.
Ahh lampworking! I have several small burn scars on my arms and chest from tiny bits of flying glass. hehe Sewing...I have sewed my finger 3 times so far. The last time was the worst..the needle broke off in my finger. I thought I was gonna pass out. Thank goodness my hubby was home to extract the needle. It was bent so when he pulled it out it SCRAPED its way out. OW!
About a year ago I decided to rip seams with a pair of scissors when I was slightly under-the-influence, scissors slipped and sliced into my knuckle It was numb for a few days and I can still feel a sharp pain if I whack it, semi-circle scar too!
when i knit too much i end up bruising the tips of my pointer fingers from pushing yarn over the needles. lol
I've had so many crafty injuries. I think the first was sewing my finger in the sewing machine. There was no way for the needle to come out wihtout going further in first. I've had the dredded seam ripper cuts over and over. And I've had burns from the soldering iron and bits of broken glass in the bottom of my feet. I finally learned that I couldn't cut glass barefooted. When I do counted croostitch or knit for very long my whole right arm from the shoulder to the elbow is in pain. It usually hurts the rest of the day. I guess that's from getting old. But I'm not ready to give up yet. Kathi
I had to go to the ER several yrs. ago and have a machine needle removed from my middle finger. It wasn't bad and was about a third the way from my finger tip but I was too much of a sissy to let anyone pull it out. I was tryin to pull some denim thru and didn't get my finger out of the way and it stabbed me and snapped off. So they just numbed it and removed it. Makes one cautious when that happens.I've had numerous stabs and cuts from needles and scissors, burns from the hot glue, blisters, etc. but it's all part of crafting. Never made me wanna stop.
