My son is all healed up (bellybutton and circ), and we are starting to look at baby bathtubs. There are ones that are just foam rubber that sit in the tub, the mats that stick to the bottom, the plastic tubs themselves, or this one that looks like a bouncer. One of them had an age of 0-6 months, but none of the others were labeled. Here are my two questions. Which bathing device do you think is better, or any other options that there are (A family member has agreed to buy it for us, so the cost isn't too big a deal). The second question is how old is average for a kid to be able to just sit in the regular tub.
I experimented with a variety of bathing options with my kids; the mat, the baby tub, the foam rubber pad. I found what worked the best for me when they were little was the mesh bouncer. Oh, and my twins are almost 2.5 years old and I still have them sit in their bath chairs while in the tub. I usually bath them both at the same time, and as you can imagine, it's a bit difficult to keep them both from slip-sliding all over the place. But in the chairs, I feel more at ease while I tend to bathing the other twin, knowing that the other one can't suddenly stand up, slip and fall. I guess it also depends on your child too. Some might totally hate the bath chair, but others don't mind it. Mine like them.
I honestly can't remember when my oldest son started sitting in the tub without a bath chair. I know he's definitely been without one for quite some time, but the heck if I can remember!
ughh you had to say circ.... being pregnant again i just cringe at the sight or sound of the word. anyway i would just use what ever is easiest to store and stable for babies. my brother had one of those bouncie seat type with his now 15 mo old. they seemed to work good. i never used baby baths long when my babies got descent head control i just took them in with me. washed them up and tried to hand them off to someone so i could finish bathing. these days its easy to hand them off to some one as i have a 12 and 8 year old. my oldest is very helpful. well the 8 year old sometimes but hes excellant for keeping the little ones entertained for a few minutes. now my 17 mo old and 3 yr old often hop in with a sibling. so my first 2 proboly bathed in the baby bath till about 2 months. the younger 2 probly once or twice just for there first bath picture pretty much. it just seemed to be a pain after a while to lug out the bath, fill, wash baby, dress baby, then clean it all up. i just fit them into my routine and i'd rather spend that time with my baby.
When I was bathing Gracie May, for the first few months, I just washed her head first and then bathed her body (in the kitchen sink). When she was about 6 months old (able to sit up) I let her sit in a couple of inches of water in the bathtub. We didn't buy any baby-tub things. Didn't need em.
i did the fold up sink tub, and my back has been grateful ever since. right after delievery, i had no lower back strength due to the fact that i'd been on bed rest for the whole pregnancy. it was really nice having her RIGHT THERE in front of me, too.
I second using the kitchen sink. Place a towel in the sink first so it's nice and soft. It's sooo much easier.
I take my newborns/infants in the tub with me to bathe them I make sure my husband's around to take the babe from me and give her to me. I bathe with them untill they can sit up and use a tub ring. I think it helps grow the bond a bit more
i got an infant tub that is at an angle so the child can sit back. well my son is seven months and he has been sitting up all by himself for the past month in a half and that is when i started giving him a bath in the regular tub.
