I learned to crochet by buying a book and following the directions. I picked up on it right away. Knitting, however, has proved to be much more of a challenge. I bought a magazine with instructions, and I just can't seem to get my hands to do what the directions say. I feel like I'm all elbows! Can anyone recommend a book with clear instructions on how to knit? Or maybe someone local who would be willing to teach me in person? I'm willing to barter/pay for instruction in person. Thanks all!
are you left handed or right handed? Sometimes its hard to teach someone who is of a different handedness!
here's a link that should help you out......they have a ton of funky patters for both knit and crochet too! http://knitting.about.com/bllearn.htm?terms=knitting+stitch+glossary hope this helps
my first two attempts to learn from a book were complete failures. by the third try (about two years from the first time i tried, lol) i more or less got it from the book (stitch n bitch). along the way i had to look up some stuff online that i needed explained in a different way. i found this site and it helped me SO MUCH, especially when i tackled double pointed needles for the first time. there are videos you can watch close up of her hands while she explains what she's doing. http://www.knittingatknoon.com/demos.html
Thanks for the links. I bookmarked them, an I'll try to work with them when I have time. I'm right handed. That's why my mother can't teach me, she's a leftie, and it was just all weird when she tried to show me.
