err I do :) but I accept that many younger (and older folk for that matter) don't. there's a perception that it's boring/passe. it's neither of course. all modern (western) music is based on principles of scales and harmony established by the 15th century. in fact one could argue that modern music is a dumbed down version of these principles that is in keeping with the fast food culture of today :).

Haha, yeah. I appreciate classical but.. the Doors and Malmsteen are not by any stretch classical. I don't care how fast Malmsteen can play the 19th symphony on guitar. heh..

One time - just once - I whistled the entire song of Gershwins "Rhapsody in Blue", because out of all the many songs I know, this 16 minute song is the only one I know all the way through. It's also my favorite song. Its so chipper and always makes me happy.

I like some classical and really appreciate some works. But I'm not that much into it to discuss composers and their work.

I don't think it's right to assume nobody here listens to it because nobody posts about it at these forums.

Alot of the fear of classical music is based on the feeling that liking it is elitist. Indeed when I was in grade school, some of my friends who lived on the wrong side of the tracks, per se, reffered to it as "rich people music", which allways struck me as funny being as a rich persons Beethoven cd sells for far less money than a working class AC/DC cd. I think that a century hence, the beatles will be listened to in the same way as beethoven is today. i like how new forms of music are coming out that are reverting to the more symphonic styles, for example post-rock bands like Godspeed you black emperor or mogwai. thats more or less neoclassical jam. and i like it.

I really enjoy classical music, but I must be in the mood for it.

Yeah, fear of classical music is very cultural,"common joes" don't want to be associated with the "stuffy elite" Frankly, I can dig both rock and classical music any day of the week.
