Manowar, 3 Inches of Blood, Viking Skull, Hammerfall etc.

Come on then, who else here has a Heart of Steel?

I prefer to feed my steel heart with power metal, like Hammerfall (although Hammerfall is one of my less favourite in that genre). But Manowar is ok as well. :)

Yea I'm into some Power Metal as well (Sonata Arctica, sometimes a bit of Nightwish, just discovered Blind Guardian as well). I'm just really into all the cheesey metal that goes on about Battle, Steel and Killing Orcs

Sonata Arctica, Nightwish and Blind Guardian aren't the best examples for power metal though.

I think, as a battle metalfan you might like the typical power metal sound of Drakkar - Gemini, Athena - Twilight of days or Dominé - Dragonlord.

Try some Ensiferum, wicked mix of power/death and folk music.

I've always considered Ensiferum more a mix of Black Metal, Power Metal, Polka, and other forms of European folk music, but whatever.

Is "Battle Metal" even really considered a genre? I mean bands like Hammerfall, Iron Fire, Viking Skull, Manowar, Steel Attack and stuff are more Power Metal and Heavy Metal bands. By the way, I've always thought that 3 inches of Blood's vocalist sounds somewhat like Rob Halford from Judas Priest.

I don't really consider it a genre, just a name for bands whose songs are predominantly about battle/war.

Therefore allowing a lot of different genres into the mix.

Well its just a sub-genre of Power Metal really, still a genre though.

And hey, if 'Nu-Goth' can be considered a genre, than Battle Metal deffently can in my oppinion!

Manowar is gayer than hell. They rock!

I've given my Hammerfall cd and all of my Manowar cds away though. I don't know the other two you mentioned. You may be interested in Doomsword's album "Let battle commence", which sounds like Candlemass so it's a bit slower than you're used to, but they have Viking / battle lyrics and are reasonably entertaining.

I recognise your signature quote from a book, it must have been the Deerdancers trilogy, am I right?

I enjoy music from Power Metal bands such as:

Iced Earth, Dragonforce, Battlelore, Rhapsody, Blind Guardian, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Luca Turilli, Symphony X (hey, some consider them PM) Hammerfall, Sinergy, Gamma Ray, Angra, Children of Bodom, Nevermore, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Fates Warning, and maybe some more.

Some are awefully cheesy, but honestly people. None of those bands have a lick of bad talent within them. I like Power Metal so much because it has the most skill out of ANY Genre. Sure, they aren't talking about Meathook Sodomy, or Destroying the Jewish Infidel, but they really get me fired up.

"Battle Metal" is a genre which was made up by British Metal Magazine "Metal Hammer" during the rise of incoming foreign and European Metal bands that resembled battle chants and the like. They have printed in their magazine that they thought of it straight after listening to "Battle Metal" by "Turisas" seeing as the song came in the category of others that fitted the genre title "Battle Metal" completely.

I've never heard of the genre "battle metal" before. Would you class Amon Amarth as battle metal?
