a week ago i became a veggie... I'm so pleased i've decided to tell you all, lol. i've been good apart from last night when my boyfriend's mother put chicken on my plate and i ate it without thinking (only realising when I woke up this morning), but I know it'll become easier after a while.

I've always told myself I should but never got round to it (I like meat too much) until last tuesday, when my friend managed to convince me with the whole "how can you beleive in love and peace and eat murdered animals?" line.

So, there we are; happy me, happy animals :)

eh, The first couple of weeks are the hardest but you will have more cravings, i mean youve been eating meat your whole life, the idea is not gonna disapear in just a couple of weeks, but you have to fight it. You know whats best for your body and the environment so just keep with it. Once youve gone with out meat for awhile it wont taste the same- i tried a bite of chicken a couple of monthes ago just to see what was up with my taste buds and it tasted totally different. So yeah the cravings are going to be there but it wont tast the same for awhile if you decide to go back to old ways.
    good luck!.

I agree with Loveflower, the thought of animals in that much pain is usually enuf to remind me, but it's okay if you slip up, completely changing your diet in like a day is very hard, you'll get accustomed to avoiding meat eventually:)

Even us long-term vegheads slip up and eat meat without thinking once or twice:p

Oh yeah, and congratulations! Good choice, you're helping a ton!

*Warding off many meat-caused diseases like certain cancers, high cholesterol, heart disease, etc., and increasing your life span
*Saving one acre of rainforest every year that would have otherwise been used as grazing land for cattle
*Saving between 50 and 90 animal lives per year!

yea, when i first started to try being vegetarian, i kept accidently eating those 5-piece nuggets from wendys w/o thinking about it :p but now its a lot easier...there was actually some bacon hidden in some dinner i ate at my grandmother's house and i got really sick after eating it (when trying to figure out why i got sick, my grandma had realized there was bacon in it) and i havent eaten any red meat in a while...so now i cant. i'm not sure if the same affect has gone on chicken for me b/c i havent gone as long w/o chicken, i've only been completely vegetarian w/o cheating (besides the hidden bacon) for about 2 1/2 months...so i'm still new at it myself...but after the first month (i didnt include the first month in the 2 1/2 months), i wouldnt accidently eat meat w/o thinking about it.

i agree, the first few weeks really are the hardest, but now i don't even think about eating meat- i always check the ingredients on the boxes of stuff i eat to make sure its vegan, and i make sure there's no meat or dairy in my home-cooked food! morningstar farms makes amazing meat-substitues, may i suggest the fajita burgers and the bacon can be used in blt's and for breakfast! they also make original and pizza veggie burgers, as well as chicken patties and chicken nuggets, and corn dogs! all veggie, and boca has the same stuff as well as ground beef (vegan!)

That happened to me before I ate meat accidentally well kinda. I was babysitting and the girl's mom told me that when she got hungry I was supposed to heat up some chicken for her ..so I did and after I touched the chicken I licked my fingers lol I felt so ashamed haha at least I didn't actually eat meat but I had the taste of chicken in my mouth and it felt gross :(

I'm what you would call a 'virgin-veggie' too - it's been 2 weeks now (although I did eat a couple of slices of pizza last night with pepperoni on it; yeah, it did taste a little weird!). I have to say I'm not missing meat so far, and I'm feeling much better for it - definitely noticing the change in my waistline too.

My reasons for going veggie aren't so much that I disagree with eating meat (I have done it for the past 25 years, so would feel slightly hypocritical for stating that as my reason), but more so that I want to see how it effects my body and the way I feel inside. I have much much respect for people who are veggie for the above reason - of course.

In the end of the day, if it was a matter of survival, I would eat meat.....but I would rather prepare it myself. When I think of the chicken/beef/pork etc I have bought in supermarkets, pre-packed and processed in some factory somewhere. Who knows where it's been, who has had their mucky mitts on it? The chems and preservatives pumped into food these days. No thanks!

I saw that too, god, I knew what they did too those poor little creatures was horrible. But, that was just too mutch...
I had to stop watching. I started crying, and I'm one of those persons that doesn't cry easily. I mean don't those people have any feelings?!
I do think that everyone should see that, I think most of them would change to vegetarianisme in one second...

By the way: Congrats!! Keep hanging in there, the more veggies ,the better for the world!

it's been around two weeks now... i'm not missing meat nearly as much as I thought I would. I've been on a camping holiday with my veggie friend so that made it pretty easy (lived on mars bars, micro chips and beer :s). What I've really missed is fish.. seafood is my favourite food; the idea of never eating another prawn brings tears to my eyes, lol!

All my friends have been really supportive, but my mum seems to have it in her head I'm doing it to annoy her or something! She keeps cooking me meat, making me tuna sandwiches, then groaning when I can't eat them. Then again I guess she has been cooking meat for me for sixteen years, so it must be pretty strange for her aswell.
Anyway, thanks for all the helpfull advice- especially sunburst- the idea of saving 50-60 animals per year makes me smile (even if 30 of them are delicious prawns...)

I'm all for the ethnic treatment of animals, but PETA pisses me off. I support Greenpeace, though, so it's not like I'm totally removed.

Yeah, I've been a vegetarian for four years. It's great. I feel so good about myself because of it. Everyone said it was just a phaze (sp?), but I guess they were wrong, weren't they?
