Does anyone else remember this movie, it had Roddy Piper in it. I was at my parents this weekend, and I watched it again with my dad, and just was curious if anyone else has seen it? Where Piper is a drifter and stays in the cardboard city, and strange things happen in the city and the cardboard city is cleared by police, and piper goes to a church and finds a pair of sunglasses that he can see the aliens true faces and subliminal messages..and yadda yadda.. So, anyone else seen it? I apologize, my description of movies is pretty much horrible, but meh, what can ya do..
I used to like this John Carpenter film quite a bit actually. The other film youre refering to is "hell comes to Frogtown" . strange film, i think it was pipers first actually. it came out around 83 or so i think.
Thats it exactly...thank you that was going to bother me.. I liked They live as well, it was different and such..my dad loves it..
Yeah, I kinda liked They Live. I remember seeing it when it was in theaters. Years later I read a Stephen Kind story that had been written long ago and was included in the collection Nightmares and Dreamscapes. The story is called "The Ten O'Clock People." It's about people who smoke just a certain amount, usually at 10 in the morning on a break from work. Because the amount of certain chemicals in their systems, they alone are able to see through the disguises of these "bat-faced" people who occupy all the positions of wealth and power in the world. They form a resistance, blah blah blah. It struck me how similar the premise was to that of They Live. Blue skies, -Jeffrey
i could be wrong, but i think thats where carpenter got the idea from..but i could be wrong.. i would have loved to see that in the theater...
I know that Nightmares and Dreamscapes was published as an anthology a good deal after They Live was released, but it's possible that the story was published in any number of magazines prior to that. Lots of King's stuff was. Who knows. Blue skies, -Jeffrey
they live is one of those films that i thought i was one of the only people to actually know about hehehe how wrong was I
lol... Wasnt Dreamscape a movie also, it had Dennis Quaid in it, or am I thinking of something else...
Yeah thats Dreamscape. He's a psychic, and the Brewmeister from Strange Brew recruits him for a new project where they can psychicly project themselves into other peoples dreams...but the little guy that shot Cyrus in the movie The Warriors and also played Sully in Commando turns out to be an evil psychic that goes into people's dreams to kill them... They Live was the shit also...everytime it's on TBS or USA or one of those stations, I have to stop what I'm doing and watch it again. Yes I have no life...haha
heh heh Noxious... I've been using that line since the first time I saw the movie....it always gets a laugh. I still want a pair of those shades, but I want them to show Republicans instead...
Except Dreamscape spawned a whole generation of people who believe that if you die in your dream, your body will die in real life. The movie fiction premise got repeated so much that people began to think it was true. I know that it is not because I have died in my dreams many times. It's actually a really cool experience! Blue skies, -Jeffrey
I know people who say that if you die in your dream that you will die in real life, and that has always made me laugh haha
