The Velvets were a great band...very controversial at the time.. one of the most influential bands ever probably. I esp like 'Andy Warhol's Velevet Underground', 'White Light White Heat' and 'Loaded'.
I love most of the stuff the vu released especially loaded and the velvet underground and nico...best song ever: pale blue eyes
I've grown to hate the songs that Nico sung, except for "Femme Fatale"... other than for a few songs on Loaded I can't really ever get enough of them when I put them on.
yeah, Ive told quite a few people that I cant stand nico's voice and they act as if Im crazy. I just dont like her voice, Im sorry!!
They were an awesome band, very influential without a doubt. And I really love Lou Reed, his voice is amazing! I find Heroin a great song.
Yes - Lou Reed has written some great songs - too many to mention. have to disagree with critics of Nico's vocals though - I think she was just great - can't think of any other female singer with such a sexy voice actually..
sexy? are you serious?? IM sorry, but something a bit more soulful would be more sexy to me. I dont find All tomorrows parties sexy at all..... its more haunting.
VU is a great band... i agree.. i cant stand nicos voice that much either though... just a lil too deep of a voice for a woman... her voice was anything but sexy... but her bod made up for that... but i still love the VU & Nico album... Loaded is another great album as well..
just so ya know, lou reed didn't write nearly as many songs as he gets credit to during his time with the VU. Sterling Morrison and John Cale wrote a lot, but let Lou take credit for them.
I've been listening to VU live bootlegs lately (The Quine Tapes and Live at La Cave, '68). I love hearing all of the different versions of their songs, but I would love to hear some live recordings with Cale. Live at La Cave is (ironically enough) the first performance with Doug Yule. I want to find some recordings from '67 - early '68, but I can't find any. I also want to find "Sweet Sister Ray" somehow. I know that a live recording has been released on a bootleg, as I've seen the sleeve on the internet. Heh, does anyone have any of these recordings I seek?
Well, I have a "Sister Ray" from The Quine Tapes that's 38 minutes, but that's from 1969. If the recording you're talkng about is from the Cale era, then yes, I would be looking for it. I'd be more than willing to trade recordings with anyone here for demos and live recordings I don't have.
The only Pre-1968 live recordings I've got are "EPI 1966" (recorded at the Valleydale Ballroom, Columbus (Ohio), November 4, 1966), the demos that appeared on the Peel Slowly and See boxset, two songs that were recorded live at Poor Richards in 1966, and a 1966 rehearsal from the Warhol Tapes. But you probably already most, if not all, of these recordings, no?
