What is everyone's favorite drawing medium? I'm looking for something besides graphite, even though there is nothing at all wrong with graphite. I just want to expand my horizons. Are colored pencils any good? Pen & ink?

    Anyway, what is everyone's favorite???

colored pencil is my favorite. the high quality kind blend really well and are so soft and easy to work with. I've made some pretty trippy-ass pictures with them.

Color pencils work alright though they tend to get a boring. You can't really get them to look bright & most of the things I've seen or done myself tend to have a dingy or dirty quality.
Pens & ink are again an alright medium. An inkwell with a set of brushes can be very interesting & produce some unusual results once you get good with it. The problem I've found in using ink is that it's more of a practice in propper stoke then anything. Once you touch the canvas or paper with the pen or brush it's there for good... The inkwell works exceptionally well though if you're looking to do something with strong contrasting tones.
If money is of no concern & you're interested in trying something new you might look into a set of high quality rendering markers & specialty marker paper. At almost $4 a marker though it can get rather expensive pretty fast. There really is no end to the possiblities with a good set of markers though. Using a blending marker on premium marker paper you can achieve a look that really can't be obtained any other way.

Good luck. I hope you find what you're looking for. ;)

What about watercolor pencils? Are they any good, and can watercolor pencils be used to create realistic art, rather than impressionistic...

it sounds like you're looking for something similar to a pencil, so painting might not suit you just yet anyway, but i generally prefer painting over everything else... watercolor's pretty cheap and fun to work with. only problem with painting is that i need a lot of space and it gets messssssy and then changing out water and all that can be a hassle... pencil -you just need to sharpen every once in a while.

Ink. Sometimes I screw up entire drawings with one stroke, but I like it.
