Should I go by the due date my Ultra Sound gave me, or what my doctor says?

Neither, The child will come out when he/she is ready. I don't really trust technology, and most doctors don't know what they are talking about.

I agree... both of those are just estimates as to when your baby may be born. Neither of mine were born on... Noah was 2 weeks early and Croix was "late" so they got worried and induced me. As long as they aren't huge distances apart I wouldn't worry.

they gave us so many different due dates. I don't think they know how to use their little "wheels".

the due date should probably not be seen as "the day the baby comes out" It should rather be seen as a perioud of time, your baby will probably come out. A time when you should be prepared for your little arrival. It's just an average time. some babies come a three weeks earlier and are perfectly fine, others three weeks later. like myself, hahaha. :)

Well, my Ultra Sound said my due date is today, but my doctor is still going by what I told him my last period was. (Which made my due date the 18th) Only problem is I guessed at my last period because I dont keep track.

I have an appointment today, so I guess we will see whats cookin down there! LOL

Definitely don't freak about the due dates. Less than 5% of all babies are born spot on the mark. And usually that's a fluke. Just make that your deadline for being all ready for baby's arrival. :)

Ok, I went to the doctor and he said he wants me to have an ultra sound done this week because he thinks my baby is big. This freaks me out. He said he wants to check my fluids to see if I have too much, or maybe not enough. I just dont know what to think...if he's going by the 18th as my due date, then I guess my baby would be kinda big...but if my due date was today then everything might be normal.

He said he knew this was not going to be a 6 pound baby. I told him my daughter was 7 pounds 10oz when she was born. What do you guys think?? Should I be scared?

When my daughter was born they didn't do ultrasounds. Don't know if they had the technology or not back then. So on the day she was "due" they xrayed to see what position "they" were in. When he got the xrays back he said "My god that's a bgi baby." He was estimating 10 or 11 pounds then and they gain a half pound a week at the end. When she was born four weeks later, she only weighed 8 pounds. And there was only one baby.

Don't worry too much. Doctors are weird when it comes to baby weights. They tend to think that babies larger than 8 or 9 pounds are just too big. But I've known of 10 or 11 pound babies that were perfectly okay. :)

lol they told me 3 years ago my "overdue" baby was going to be too big so they induced me. They thought he was 9 pounds roughly. He was born a "week late" at 6 pounds and 3oz. Go figure. Even their technology now has no idea.

Yep, you can't always trust technology. When I was pregnant with my twins, I was told that my babies were weighing in around 6+ pounds each at 36 weeks gestation via the ultrasound. I was induced the same day due to severe complications, but you know what? When those babies came out, guess what they weighed. 4 pounds, 11.8 ounces and 4 pounds, 12 ounces. I was disappointed, even though my doctor said it was great considering they were twins. *shrugs*

With my oldest son, the doctor was right about his weight while in utero. He said around 7 pounds, and he came out weighing 7 pounds, 10 ounces. But that wasn't an estimate from an ultrasound, it was his estimate upon physical examination.

Ultra sounds are notoriously inaccurate for estimating size, as much as 2 pounds off either way!

There is not much difference between the head circumference of a 6 pound baby an that of a 9 pound baby, both will be around 13-14 cms. if your baby is 8 pounds or more (and 8 is the American average birth weight), your pelvis is proven to be adequate to fit a 14 cm head through. Don't worry about the size.

Now, if he is really concerned about fluid levels, (and not just looking for an excuse to induce you before the weekend) that's a different story, low fluid levels may mean the placenta is aging and not functioning as well. Some decrease in fluid levels is normal and to be expected at the end of pregnancy. Most care providers will suggest a biophysical profile after 41 weeks of pregnancy to check for several things. Fluid levels, placental grade, breathing movements by the baby, and variations in the heart rate. Each is 2 points, and an 8 out of 8 is a perfect score and a perfectly fine baby.
Don't worry, doctors are always trying to cover their asses.

today is my due date and they did an ultrasound to guess the baby's weight about 2 weeks ago, they said he weighs about 7 lbs 5 oz, and they checked the fluid which was 20 , and thats more than enough he said.. they'll also measure the babies head, my doctore said 9.2 cm is mature or something like that, and my babies head was i think 8.9.... dont worry at all, just go with the flow... best of wishes!!
