religion, wouldnt the world really be better off? i mean, what would there be to fight over? why would people have to fear anything? i understand that there would probably still be nukes and everything, but isnt every war based on morals and disagreements that, basically come from the different countries(or peoples) main religion?

Well we would still have diversity and culture without religion. I'm sure we would find plenty of stuff to fight over. Humans tend to have little understanding for things that are different than what they are used to.

yeah we can't blame religion for all the worlds problems, religion may also of helped in the sense of people wanting to find out their origins and wanting to find meaning, the world would be quite a cold place without people with meaning, I am not religious, i am spiritual, and i believe that people are generally happier more loving people with some sence of outer belief (!). Yes some wars and problems have been fought over religion but I fail to see this as real religion because the majority of religions and real religious people have strong moral standards, its also a hard question to ask as it hard to see our world without anything it has as that wouldn't make it our world,

i understand. it just seems like everyday religion or spirituality comes in to play more and more. not necessarily good or bad, its just there. and it also seems like alot of the problems around where i live have to do with religion and spirituality. i guess its not the same everywhere. but having that said, dont people get there morals from thier religous standpoints? i mean, no offense, but you probably know that most people do call thierselves having religion more than spiritualiy. as a matter of fact, on these forums was the first time i ever heard that.

i think that in the past religion had more a standpoint over the goings on of the war, but we cann't change the past, but we can change the future, we can look at why wars now happen, whether it be power, resources or of course a religious reason and try and stop it as best we can, i dont beleive that religion plays more a part now, it may be just where i live but i only know of a few people who beleive in God, the majority of people do not where I live, yeah i do understand, i do not consider myself religious because i dont agree with the hypocrisy with organized religion, I'm not disagreeing with your opinion, I just see it at a different viewpoint

dude, if there was no religion, we would create a bunch of our own and we would still fight about who's right.

we are incurably religious, it's inside everyone of us, even if our belif system consists of saying we "dont believe in anything".

the reason we are incurably religious is because we were created that way. We were made to seek meaning and fulfillment and peace, and it is obvious that the world alone cannot offer it to us. Money, sex, drugs, fame, body image.....none of these things give us what we deeply long for. They might provide temporary happiness but nothing that lasts.

We were made with a big GOD-shaped gap. And of course, only God can fill it.
We were made to have a relationship with the One who gave us life.

and hey....IT"S NOT ABOUT RELIGION!!!It's about relationship!

Greedy bastards who would want more money, oil, other resources, power, control, etc....are gonna be here with or without religion.

The main problem is the people who try to control other people.

Since politics has used religion to keep the people from revolting (fear of death, God, afterlife), then a world without religion would have to be comprised of individualities (individuals, but as whole societies). Since socities also are structured to have power over people, since they are extension of politics, then society would feel threatened, and with it a direct threat to the rulers. The ruling governement would then have to become oppressive, minimise personal rights and freedoms. You'd then just have the truth - that all wars are political in nature. Life would then be lived at the end of a gun: "if you do not go to war for us we will kill you right now." So in the end the world may be even worse off than it is now. MAY, since it is all conjecture.

I don't get my morals from religious standpoints. I have no religious standpoints, and am far from amoral. I try to be a kind, productive, charitable, and understanding human being because I believe that it is good for myself, my family, my community, and the human species in general. I think things like greediness, wastefulness, and intolerance hinder the progression of the human species and I try not to contribute to problems such as those.

I don't need a religion to dictate to me how I should act, I am perfectly capable of acting like a decent human being without it.
