what would you read/have you read that was non-fiction or an autobiography? i'd love to read something funky with my students, but also have it be appropriate and entertaining. any ideas?
Since I read mostly fiction, my knowledge of autobiographies is limited. An obvious one would be Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. I think a discussion of how memories can be distorted by environment, prejudice, fear of disclosure, etc. would be interesting during a study of an autobiography (there's bound to be some fiction there, either consciously or unconsciously). You could also have the students write their own autobiographies, and stretch the stories to include the future (mix fact and fiction).
