okay, now I gotta know, any women know who she is and why she's so damn special? I know someone will, but I kinda more want to know how many don't.... every person even passingly interested in womens rights should know this before they die.....
she wrote the first translation of newton to french, got the proper equation for inertia popularized and did some other very important things for physics... she also hung out with voltaire......
I was watching something on PBS last night about Einstein and E=mc2. It went into a lot of the work others did that led up to his breakthrough, and there was a chunk of the show about her. Very interesting. She was incredibly ahead of her time, not only as a scientist, but as a free spirit. She had a husband, raised 3 kids with him, stayed married, and hooked up with Voltaire. She also had a ton of "short lived flings" that her husband was aware of. She ultimately died because one of her flings got her pregnant at age 43. She dies 6 days after giving birth, complications from the labor. Tragic that someone so brilliant, and a woman who rose above being a woman to be respected as a scientist, died of something only a woman can die from.
