I saw some of the video of this on the news channels and it looked pretty bad. I know people are under stress in Orleans but they didn't have to do this, even if the man was drunk, which he says he wasn't. There are some video clips in the link. The previous police chief in Orleans resigned not long before this beating. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/10/09/taped.beatings.ap/ .
Some US-fans call this "an unfortunate event", others defend what the police did. But when this happens to nations the United States is hostile to, it's called "dictatorship" and "totalitarian police-state".
Nutters might think so and defend it.. Not heard that being voiced .. though i have not been along to the official KKK website recently.. The police on the other hand have suspended the officers involved and a investigation into their conduct is ongoing.. "dictatorship" and "totalitarian police-state'' Why is it when a individual incident like this happens..that is always claimed ?. Constant references to his skin colour have not been brought up yet .. *waits*
New Orleans has had trouble like this for years. This is no individual incident - AP camera's just happened to be there so it is getting national recognition.
The AP producer was roughed up by an officer also. Plus one of the other officers on the horse put the horse's butt between the camera and beating to block the view. .
I've seen a number of police beatings on TV but I've never seen one with mostly black cops beating up a white person. That's not implying that this latest one was racially motivated. .
One more reason never to trust cops...some are good people, but most are just in it for the power trip.
Why do you think this particular one was highlighted ??.. I am sure it was not racially motivated, not at all.. Though since the rodney king beating, i am sure more have been in the news.. Just like the seemingly endless weather related tragedys recently...it is because they have been put in the news because people watch... These things things happen all year every year... Not that beeating up the general public is acceptable, but i don't think anything out of the ordinary or really that newsworthy occured with this beating.. it should be a internal matter for the victim and the police....no something we should all be fooled into proclaiming "dictatorship" and "totalitarian police-state''....when clearly if it was true, half the things that happen within America would not happen e.g foreign aid ..it just is a extreme thing to shrill everytime possible... chill out people. Does it happen every day, every week, every year.. not that it is ever acceptable...
What sort of event would you think is newsworthy? No beatings? A beating that was worse than this one? Where someone got killed? It's part of life that these things end up in the news. It's good that some of them do end up in the news, otherwise the general public wouldn't be aware of them. Orleans does have a bad record of these types of incidents happening. There isn't any debate about that. .
You actually think that if the cops hadn't been caught by the media that they still would have gotten in trouble? I just don't understand why people are trying to sympathise with these cops....the fact that it happens every day somewhere doesn't make it more ok, it makes it even less ok to do this. People should, and have the right to be, outraged with the cops - who are paid by the people to serve and protect the people - use their positions as an excuse to exert their hate, frusteration, and prejudice out on the people they are employed to keep safe.
It happens daily. The NOPD have a nice way of killing people they don't like. Poke them hard with a nightstick. When the person reflexively tries to block BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM ---- "he was going for my weapon!" Don't worry though - they only do it to blacks. Not nice white tourists. Sarcasm off.
But those cops are sure cowards when they're outnumbered. The LAPD never did show up for the LA riots like they did for the King beating. .
Happened here in Austin not long ago. A black teenager was shot multiple times by police. The cop's excuse? "He was going for my taser." Oops...bad excuse. Turns out the cop had dropped the taser on the ground yards back. The kid was on his stomach on the ground with his arms under him. He died. Also, last month a man was tasered to death by austin police. In fact, since 1998 there have been 14 deaths (here in austin). All but one of them were minorities. http://www.statesman.com/search/content/auto/epaper/editions/today/news_34a31447317f52fc0067.html
yea cops in Mesa down here have been killing hispanic teens because the kids were "reaching" for their tasers and other shitty reasons, its very close to that story in Austin exept this has been goin on for a long ass time. fucked up shit.
The ones doing the beating are not even aware of a camera most of the time. They are so caught up in the emotions at the time. I watched a documentary about police behavior. They showed an incident on the U.S. border where cops where beating the crap out of some illegal immigrants and pulling them by the hair even though they did nothing to invoke a beating. There were police and news copters overhead but the cops completely forgot about them because they were caught up in the emotions of their chase instinct. But the ones who aren't involved in the beating directly know enough to block the cameras, like that cop on the horse who blocked the view during the beatings in Orleans. They wouldn't block the view if they thought they were doing something good. Much like people often have an instinct to run and hide, many cops have an instinct to chase and beat. .
What gets me is this are 3 big white cops sorrounded by other white cops IN NEW ORLEANS ! . Cops only fear and repect citizens they know are armed .
