I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with this, because I am still not quite sure what it is..but from what I've heard, it really angers me, or the concept of it all. Actually, no the concept is wonderful, but the 'motives' around here are sick. I know what's going on in Africa, the poverty, starvation and depression is nothing new, it's been a serious problem for a long time now. Now, a few girls at my school saw this movie, "Invisible Children" and are all suddenly like, 'oh gosh, it's just so horrible..' posting all over websites, 'hey guys, support, support!' I know I must sound a little over sensitive..BUT..it does bother me that yes, this has been going on a long, long time and these kids at my school, these horribly spoiled rich girls are taking it up as their latest project and it sickens me because a, i know it will be forgotten within a week, and b, it makes me sick how they are 'spread the word, spread the word!' While for the past year I've been trying to tell them what's been going on. Yes, I do think it's GREAT that the 'word' is getting out there..but I still can't help feeling sickened by it, the whole concept..I don't know, it's just when I see 'save africa!' posted on someones 'myspace' it all seems so fake to me. One of the girls is a close friend of mine..and when she talks about it, completely uninformed and ..well, sounding ridiculous to me and trying to sound rightious, I just have to hold my tongue. Sorry if I sound really rude, I don't mean to be I'm just trying to say what I feel, genuinely and bluntely as possible. Does anyone else feel me on this?
it doesn't matter, as long as they got reached, take advantage of their temporary enthusiasm and extract long term promises to spread the word on the thing, something tangible that it's hard to wriggle out of.....
i get what you mean..when suddenly it becomes a trend to "care"..like with those livestrong bracelets, and the other charity bracelets that look like that, but with different colors. it became a "in" thing to collect the different colors at my school anyways..cause they look cool. i overheard a girl blatantly saying that she ordered some bracelet from somewher far away, just so she could get some new color. she couldnt even remember the charity..but hey i guess its good for the charitys for now anyways..and maybe it'll actually worm some care into a few of their hearts. who knows.
