It's really something I should know but can a hand be considered a still life? I honestly have no idea.
A still life is a work of art which represents a subject composed of inanimate objects. Popular in Western art since the 17th century, still life paintings, such as of flowers or fruit, give the artist more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition than do paintings of other types of subjects such as landscape or portraiture. There is a difference, I'm majoring in art therapy, and I have 2 classes, one is dedicated to still life drawing, and the other to life drawing, where we draw things such as hands, feet, and full models.
It is a lot like recreational therapy. They are people who work with kids and older folks. They also do a lot of work in psych hospitals. People especially kids will express themselves in Art when they will not otherwise. Good people, have seen them in hospitals were I worked for years now.
I take a lot of art and psychology courses for it. Art therapy has also worked its way into prisons, I know of a few people who have gotten jobs as art therapists there. Last year I was taking a course called Assistive Technology, which is basically where you learn to use equipment that the handicapped use. We worked a lot with autistic kids as well, which is where I first heard of art therapy. It was amazing some of the work the kids did, and I just fell in love with the idea.
