Arkansas Mother Gives Birth to 16th Child
Says She'd Like to Have Another
    By MELISSA NELSON, AP

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 13) - Michelle Duggar just delivered her 16th child, and she's already thinking about doing it again. Johannah Faith Duggar was born at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and weighed 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces.
The baby's father, Jim Bob Duggar, a former state representative, said Wednesday that mother and child were doing well. Johannah's birth was especially exciting because it was the first time in eight years the family has had a girl, he said.

Jim Bob Duggar, 40, said he and Michelle, 39, want more children.

"We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some she will accept them," he said in a telephone interview.

The Discovery Health Channel filmed Johannah's birth and plans to air a show about the family in May.

I've read about this family several times. I think they're kinda kooky.

I read about it this morning. Whoa is about all I could come up with. I also read that they are building a 7000 sq ft home!

aww...i think it's nice that they love kids so much, but there comes a point, in MY opinion, when i think i'd like to do the socially responsible thing, and adopt a few :) I'm not one to talk i guess, having three i can barely afford, but if i came up with the money to raise more kids later on, i'd adopt instead of birth them myself. At the very least try something different ;)

How can you parent effectively at that point?

I guess you basically devote 20 minutes to each child per day.

i think i wold be starved for attention in that family. with that many kids... how do you take one on one time with each and every one of them to make them feel special.....

i mean, if the parents find the time to do that then great for them, but if i had 16 kids, i wold probly be yelling all day to "stop hitting him" or "dont spill that juice".

i woldnt be able to handle myself

They're only 40 years old? Jesus, their bedroom must be the busiest room in the house!

Then again, my brother's Rabbi says he came from a small family- they only had 9 kids.

    Only 9 kids???

I'd be scared to ask what he consider's a large family.

I cheated myself out of the odd dream I had of a large family....I honestly wanted as many kids as I could be blessed with....but Brian's already 31 and it would not be fair to him or the kids to keep having kids when he's older...my dad was 40 when I was born and he was so tired and cranky all the time we didn't do much together....I'd hate for my kids to go through that or for brian to have to feel it...:(

I have a client who is currently pregnant with her 16th child. Unfortunately she does not have custody of any of them. Right now the judge is not even allowing her visitation. He said that if he has anything to do with it she will never see any of her kids again. He told her in court that it is against the law to have that many kids. I printed out the article I saw online today about it. I think she's gonna send it to the judge. I guess it's against the law to be poor and black and have kids, but not if you're a senator or something like that.

holy cow. that's a lot of kids.

i saw a show on tv about that family a while back. the lady homeschools all the kids, teaches them how to play musical instruments, and the family basically runs a church out of their house.

they must have a hell of a lot more energy than i do.

as for how the kids get attention, she says that the kids help a LOT around the house, and with the younger kids, so that she actually has time to pay them some one on one attention. they also don't own a tv, video games, or a computer.

i can't imagine not losing your marbles with that many kids, but more power to them if they can do it i guess.

on the tv show, the kids actually seemed pretty well behaved and well adjusted, if somewhat sheltered. (of course, they could be monsters in real life, i suppose.)

my husband's ex-wife's sister is having twins now. she doesn't have any of her kids, either. she's a drug addict and a total wreck. she has truly beautiful babies, though. there's several very happy childless parents adopting. i wanna kick her ass up and down the street, personally. none of the kids have the same daddy. and they're all colors of the ethnic rainbow.

    Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaht

    That is just .... insane.
How can they make that work; just the simple logistics, finances, fiting everyone in the house and all?
Even just remembering all the kids names!

Ah well, if they're happy and doing a good job. Then good luck to them.

my nan was one of thirteen...it used to be a lot more normal than now for a variety of reasons...birth control, childhood illnesses etc...

I just send great kudos to my great nana for managing through what to me would be overwhelming in proportions!!

Drugs. She's in our program now and is doing very well. She actually only used drugs with the two year old twins and the current baby. The other kids were taken away from her because the twins were positive for drugs.

What law? I've never heard of a law limiting how many kids one can have. Is it a state law?
