If you wanan cover the 60's, woodstock, rock-n-roll, etc. Then do a project on how Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison. All great rockstars that are one of kind, all came to their peaks in the 60' and lead the way for rock-n-roll. Then they all died at the age of 27. Plus all their names start with J, which may not be note worhty.
Do you want to do the project on the 60's or Rock'n Roll; or, The Rock and Roll of the 60's. Obviously, you're on the hippie site; so, therefore, you want to do it on the music derived from Rock'n Roll in this 'time and genre' of "Love and Peace" and so on (free love, free speech, etc.), as opposed to Soul music and Rythm and Blues of the time. One good starting point wood be to listen to and study the lyrics of Steppenwolf, as well as other of this period--"Born to be Wild". The lyrics mention, "I like smoking lightning, HEAVY METAL THUNDER, racing with the wind and the feeling that I'm under...." Now, the key words here are HEAVY and METAL. This song as well as the group gave birth to the 'Heavy Metal' term, sound and genre that developed in the 70's. The 60's alone was a very pivotal time in, not only, American society in the United States, but all over the world: There was a war going on (Vietnam) and anti-war demonstrations were prevalent in tune/harmony with the Peace Movement, social injustices were being challenged by the Civil Rights Movement; Women's Equality was being asserted, etc. You have a lot of reading to do young lady if you intend to present a comprehensive project. I suggest you stick to the music part of the 60's; in particular the "hippie" aspcect or movement part of it. Suggested bands are: Steppenwolf, Buffalo Springfield, Jefferson Airplane, Peter-Paul-and-Mary, Ravi Shankar, Iron Butterfly, The Doors, The Mama's and the Papa's, Janis Joplin, Jimmi Hendrix, The Animals, Strawberry Alarmclock, The Beatles (in transition to Eastern Mysticism), and there are so many more. Hope, you can use this information. Many blessings to you on your efforts.
I think Beatles should be the first important band. It was the biggest band of the 20th century, let alone that decade.
