I'm making a CD of empowering songs... you know, the kind that make you feel like you can jump over buildings! Suggestions?
Bikini Kill is real good for that. Alix Olsen is also really hot, but it's spoken word (not sure if you're into that), Tribe 8, Bad Religion (older stuff), Team Dresch.. That's just some stuff..
Good idea..I am almost positive she spells her name Olsen, but it could be Olson..hee..either one. Look for The Rainbow Connection site. Did you ever hear the Home Alive CD? It's a compilation of a whole bunch of different artists..musicians, poets, etc.. Check it out because you can find some excellent stuff on there.. Another one is Julie Ruin (she's also Kathleen Hannah from Bikini Kill) She Rocks! Ooohh & definitely Spitboy 7 Year Bitch Sleater Kinney alright, I'll leave you with those for now ... Let me know what you think..
I just happen to stumble across this sight today as i woke up and wondered.. humm.. everyone here says i am a hippy... not really sure what that means... so i asked my roommate "what's a hippy'. "Tree hugger who plays music and smokes doobies." I laughed. then he said "Nah, it's someone who is in love with the world around them." i nodded and thanked him... then smoked doobies. But what i seem to have noticed is that there are some people in here who seem a little spiteful. So there is a 15 yr old sputter about music theory??? At 15 i was only on my 1st year of theroy.you don't even scratch the surface in the first year. but i had been playing music for about 8 yrs by then. You don't need to know theory to write music. Music is a expression of your soul. If Eric clapton worried about Theroy then we wouldn't have had anything by Cream, or his solo career. If we worried about music theory then all the pop in the world would reign supreme... not so bad.... SO i guess in closing i just wanna say that music is what you make it. If you think it sounds good and you made it, then you in your mind have made music. So if you really wanna make the world a better place then you should respect the fact that a person playing a 4 bar groove is at least trying to do something... at least there equipment isn't just sitting there collecting dust... Congratulate them on it, and then maybe give them some pointers. How do you expect to help them get any better if you just get all whinney when they do play. Cause i taught my g-tar player how to play. ANd he was nervious as shit first time. I sat him down, showed him some bar cords. ANd *PooF* with him practicing, i had a g-tar player that can whail now. and no... it's not just a 4 bar groove. -GAndi
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child (Slight Return) "Well I stand up next to a mountain. And I chop it down with the edge of my hand."
"Lateralus" from Tool is the most empowering song I can think of. "Take the Power Back" from Rage Against the Machine is another good one.
