One thing that helps me is the realisation that pretty much everything my head tells me is bullshit. Most of the time it's my ego telling me what I want to hear so loud I can't hear what I need to hear.

What kind of BS is your head telling you?

And what is it that you are not hearing that you need to be hearing?

you're angry. you're hungry. you're sad. you're too skinny, too fat. you want to do this. you like this person. you don't like this place. etc, etc.
ask, why do i act and feel like i do?

    Excerpts from above:

Agreed, enormous; and we can see evidence of this firsthand and, also, by experimental evidence (by both our own "internal science" and by "collective science").

You are OK, continue to be sincere and honest; be humble and listen to your self. These thoughts are part of an evolution where your mind is trying to solve problems. So when you see an image of something that scares you, note both images and the other images that follow; you will find resolve, strength and peace, you will get in touch with what is generating what appeared to be the "first image." Look up Vipassana, google it. But you can "do this yourself," and it is actually what you are already doing but meditation makes happen more efficiently.

Maybe a better way to say it is in 'Koan' form, that is, "we do and we don't."

Yes, but by facing that, you will find that much of the difficulty resides in our fear of what we think the answer is rather that what the answer really is. It is doable and in one sense, by my awareness, happens in levels or descrete jumps; yet the process also has a continuous aspect to it as well. Be patient, forgiving, steadfast and peaceful.

So why do you act and feel the way you do? Do you feel like you really have a choice all the time or is it more of something that you have found to be an override at times?

I am going to bed... more of this some other time though. GOOOOOOOOOOODDD NIIIGHHHT!

    Alot of embarrasing shit;
Every confrontation I get in is the other guys fault,
I'm so much saner than most people,
I should do this, I should feel that,
    I love her (when I don't)
    I don't love her (when I do)
    On and on and on....

when I shut my head up I can hear what's around me and sometimes out of the blue I get the answers to questions I'd been mindfucking myself with forever.

the answers, I've found, to most of life's questions are usually "who cares" or "lets go see.."

When you see a green car and go indoors and tell your friend that you saw a "green car," you "know" you saw a "green car" and yet you cannot easily prove that you saw it without bringing that experience to him/her in a strong and convincing manner. You will know it through the progression of results that comes caused by sincere, honest, thorough acknowledgement of the truth of your experience as you experience it.

thank you, david. i have started meditating in the last 2-3 months and have already found my general reaction to life to be more peaceful and flowing, accepting. i've never necessarily been an unpeaceful person, though inside, more reactionary and frustrated. i find myself now, feeling more detached and calmly interested rather than grasping...... what do you make of that? i will look up vipassana, i see that there are a lot of good websites on that practice.
i'll try and understand what you mean by that.

i think the point is that we don't have a choice when our subconscious, which we are unaware of, is continually dredging up strange feelings and wants, which we accept, when we should be questioning our own motives more.
good night! welcome to the forums, btw... see you around! :)

Good Intuition: As much as people laughed and made fun of Occam what I saw/see was/is a real thinker, a raw thinker who knew some "basic rules" that cannot be easily conveyed by words alone; sincere and, ultimately, humble. I sense that he had a good 'groove' that had strong inspiration and detachment as part of it.

Like I said--ego, and yeah it gets the better of me more often than not.

    To me ego is the devil and these are his minions;

(princes and principalitys? or just pyschological principles. Beats me, works either way)

    Pride
    Self-pity
    Jealousy
    Envy
    Lust
    Anger
    Lazyness
    Hate
    (I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody)

Basically anything I use to mindfuck myself with.
thing is if I'm not feeding them by talking to myself in my head these guys starve to death, or at least they shut up for awhile.

    'night rasa4jc.

First rule of war "Know your enemy".

I'm lucky because I believe in god, and He's probably the only thing in the universe that's bigger than my ego.
