My husband just told me this is what I should be - Medusa! The only thing we could come up with (at least with my dreads) is to tie them to wire. Mine are actually stillsoft enough where you COULD weave a wire through them but I think that may hurt the dread.

    Yes _pictures! pictures!

i wold say the wire thing wold probably work well to make em stick upand out, weaving the wire thru may make a bunch of holes and be extremely uncomfy!!! you could also be raggedy ann, and put the hair in pigtales if it is long enuff =)

how about little snake heads on the end ( make em out of metal) with 2 pieces of wire attached to the inside and just twist them around your dread. then you could bend em

I'm being a moth, for the sole purpose of using my two front/bang dreads as antennas. I was going to put a little wire in the base of each so that they stand straight up.
I used the Medusa costume last year, if you get those hollow plastic snakes (you may be able to find them at the dollar store if you get lucky) you can chop off their heads and place them over the ends of your dreads. Then what I did was attached them with wire and wrapped green ribbon (in the same color as the snakes) around the dreads with snakes on them.
hope this helps, its extra challenging to incorporate dreads into costumes. I would love to see pictures of everyones dreadie costumes

you could make a crown of wires (use a darker colored wire so it won't show up. Available in craft stores and maybe the hardware store) with wires coming out/up where you want your dreads to be then if you want to just get some dark elastics and tie them/make you own rubberbands to attach them to the wire.
