how do you know which words have 'ou' instead of just 'o'? or do all of the words that have just the 'o' in the u.s. have the 'ou' in canada? like colours, favourites... would 'genious' be spelled like that or is there no 'o'? thats always the one that confyooses me.
i think it is just on the "-or" sound, like in colour, honour neighbour and such its cause we stayed British instead of suceeding from the Empire
pritty much then there are words like Centre and such.. i dono if that applys to all of canada or all of the province i live in.. i dono We have godo food tho.. randomness
AHahha.. we don't say luftenant.. more..loutenant. hahaha No good food?! ahha ok well.. yeah... we have poutine though.
and yeah, we pretty much throw the U in all the words you just have an O with.. for "or" like burby said. genius. we spell it the same. i prefer our spelling to yours
I prefer your spelling to the U.S.'s. i dont like to say "our's".. i dont consider myself an American.
You are right.. my Cousin is in the army and he is a 2nd Lieutenant and in Canada we say leftenant not the way it is spelt lieutenant..
MEG!!! luf-ten-ant is the CORRECT way!!! and its way more fun oh, and doughnut in Canada has all the letters in it i consider myself an america...Same With Mexicans [they are americans too] and Brazilians, and Peruvians
it kinda bugs me now when i hear "america" used as a country...America was acctually i think either in the Carribean or Brazil or somehitng origionally
Yeah you just kind of learn the words as you go along, like anything. It's just the way it goes. I'm British, but Canadian spellings are obviously pretty similar (more so than American ones). Not going to go down the cultural elitist route. Still think maybe 'American' should be declared a seperate language, there aree enough diffrences to make it worth the effort. Not just the spellings, it's pronounciations too. The American one of aluminum (sp) [ah-loo-min-um] is not even close to the British [alley-min-ee-um]. So it sounds really weird to me. Have to listen carefully and figure it out. Oh and we say loo-ten-ant, well I do.
