I'm actually in the middle of making new dreads, and we are facing a big problem right now.

I've read from dreadheadHQ.com that new dreads should be made as tight as possible, so I told my friend (who is backcombing for me) to make it as tight as she can. The first dread took her 75 minutes to finish!!!! and even with the locking accelerator, it still took about 40 minutes to tighten ONE dread. (the dread is about 4.5 inches or 12cm). -- yes, I know, she's a very good friend!

so, Is it OK to make it really tight??? How come the website said 15~20 minutes for each dread??? I've asked her to try to finish a dread within 20 minutes, and that particular dread is much softer and bigger than others (like the size of index finger, but the really tight one are about the size of pinkie).
I'd really appreciate some answers ASAP as I'm in the middle of the process.

    thanks thanks thanks thanks.

They'll tighten with time so don't worry too much about them being soft and fluffy, mine were really fluffy when I did them but I palm rolled for weeks after and that helped alot :)

    Welcome by the way ;)

    thanks for the fast reply...
So if I already had some really tight one, should I redo them? (will it work against the new dread?)

    thanks

dont worry too much about how tight/nice they are right now, they are going to go through a long process of softening/tightening, etc. before they're actually dreads anyway, just enjoy it.

also, it doesn't matter the amount of time it takes to do one, it most likely COULD be done faster(they can only get so tight when your backcombing, maybe she keeps going over one thinking its looser than it actually is?)

as far as being different sizes, you're better off, that'll avoid them being to "salon" looking, and add some character.

dont worry too much about them, and just dont use wax.

thanks really, now I feel much at ease. I was so worried.

what's this deal with wax? Both knottyboy and dreadheadHQ had said that I need to apply wax for new dread.

What would happen if I did or didn't put wax??

    thanks.

kboy is wayyy better than HQ. HQ causes mould and stays forever but kboy whit a lot of hot water will come out I KNOW SO DONT ARGUE!!! its easier to not use any o p.s. dilute the HQ accelerator ALOT like put it in a bigger container and add a lot of water cause it dry's out dreads a lot so u will need to really dilute it its easier to make your own... for a spray bottle add 2 teaspoons of sea salt and some lemon juce spray after washing... remember u dont need all that product

Don't use wax. Fuck dreadhead AND knottyboy wax. You don't need it.

Of course they'll tell you that you need to use it. They want to make money.
