Fair enough. If he wants to figure out guitar riffs he would do good to learn some riffs from the bands that are psychedelic.
play "you're gonna miss me" by the 13th floor elevators. verses- E, D, A, G the you gave me the warning bit - Em bridge- C, Bb, Ab, Bb, C, Bb, F, Dm, F, Dm, F, Dm, F
but most psychedelic bands started out learning r&b, soul, jazz, folk, etc first and then experimented with what ever their style was and made it psychedelic that way.
floyd soul has it pretty much. psycedelic rock was created i feel originally by jimi hendrix, he was so ahead of his time. the very early 60's psycedelic was when acid first came on the scene, but jimi took it to the heights. psycedelic started the 60's revolution with a new music scene, to get away from the great but not really not so imaginative 50's music. we of my generation called psycedelic music "acid rock" which eventually became heavy metal. groups like black sabbath, led zepplin, the doors, ect used acid rock. but the mind altering drugs deff changed the music scene. just look at the original beatles from the early 60's to their 70's stuff, outrageous. i don't believe in mind altering hard drugs anymore, saw too many people die from them, like jim morrison, jimi hendrix and janis joplin and alot of my hippie friends back in the day, but i do believe in pot and always will. stay cool my young friends, it's great to see you talking about all this great music. hippiewise
i really like jimi hendrix, but i dont think he was that psycedelic. when i think of pcycedelic rock i think of cream, iron butterfly, or strawberry alarm clock. i think jefferson airplane was the band that really helped get the pcycedelic scene as big as it did.
cream was a bad example, i should of put vanilla fudge or the grateful dead. i just think hendrix is more rock than pcycedelic
mabey pcycedelic guitar player but in my opinion i think the keyboard is a more pcycedelic instrument, a pcycedelic band should have a good keyboard player
I think you shouldnt really try to aspire to being pyschedelic. Like just incorparate different ideas into songs, anything can be psychedelic really. And it's pretty wanky making something psychedelic on purpose. Sure it wasfun back in 1967 but now people will tell you to shut the fuck up And oh yes, just play a hell of a lot of power chords....
