You guys all know that I'm a big Bowie fan... but I'm also getting back into Roxy Music (and solo Bryan Ferry) in a big way... For those of you guys who don't know their music, there is a good collection out at the moment... three cds that cover the whole range of Roxy's music... and also includes lots of Bryan Ferry's solo stuff right up to his last album... mostly the well known singles, but also some good lesser known stuff... Highly reccomended as a way of getting into Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry... it'll give you a good idea of what to investigate further... Anybody got any fave Roxy Music songs?... Fly... .
I've not really investigated Brian Ferry or Roxy Music. But his sister taught at my Primary school here in Washington and she was brilliant
I like everything they did up until around their 4th album. For songs, 'Mother of Pearl' tops my list.
I started listening to them and quickly realised that Brian Ferry is completely mad, I also liked them because they had Brian Eno in, and he's amazing, especially when him and Mr Fripp worked together.... jaz
My dad's a big Brian Ferry fan so I was always subjected to him and Roxy Music as a youngster...nowadays I really like them, so I don't know if I've just become used to them or if they're good!
i love roxy music, my parents made us listen to all types of music when i was a child & roxy music was one of the many bands we listend to. i think my favourite song is angel eyes but there are far too many songs that i like.
Yeah, they're pretty good the stuff I've heard. Can't say I listen to them that much but every now and then can't do any harm.
Brian Ferrys voice is wonderful, i bought their first album the other day (i think it was their first anyway...it has virginia plain, and 2HB and lady tron on) annyway, tis an amazing album! definately worth a listen
The first five Roxy music albums are generally recognised as being the best... and are certainly worth getting... Roxy Music... 1972 For Your Pleasure...1973 Stranded... 1973 Country Life... 1974... Siren... 1975 But you also have to rememeber that Bryan Ferry was also releasing some solo albums during these years, and some of these feature some fantastic song too... Lots of people cite Brian Eno leaving as the moment that drastically changed the sound of the band... I tend to disagree... yes, Eno leaving certainly had an impact upon the band but the sound seems to change fairly gradually... the most noticable change happened with the release of Manifesto in 1979... ignoring the Viva live album, the band had been doing their own things for almost four years... disco had happened... punk had happened... so this second stage of Roxy is markedly different from the previous albums... some don't like the last three albums at all... Hark at me... Fly... .
