I think Sikhism is one of the more interesting religions out there. I dunno... What about it should we talk about?
First, how is that word pronounced? As for what I know? Well, I know they believe in one god (a mix of Hinduism and Islam, if I remember right), but are pretty tolerant of varying beliefs. They don't cut their hair or beards because they see that it is supposed to grow long, apparently by god's will. fingernails are cut because they break and get in the way of being productive. They're also very family oriented. Sounds like a cool religion, similar to my own beliefs in many points (but not all points, for sure).
They do not cut their hair due to the fact that our life force is stored in our hair so cutting it would then be cutting off part of our life force. According to sikh yogis longer hair causes protein buildup in the scalp which helps nourish the brain. Sikh is pronounced like the work 'seek'. As a kundalini yogi being trained from the lines directly descended from Yogi Bhajan, the man responsible for turning thousands of Americans into hardcore sikhs and yogis, I find the religion very interesting. The more traidtional sikhs read scriptures from their original guru leaders religiously and devotedly, but the more radical sikhs tend to be open to all unitarian spiritual philosophies. They caused alot of outrage in India by accepting the lowest caste(untouchables) into their society and giving all sikhs the rank of prince/princess. They practice communal meals religiously! They wear turbans to contain the energy in their hair and say we can lose alot of energy through our hair by leaving it uncovered all the time(personally I like to let my hair flow free).
Funny, I've had ideas about long hair too, for similar reasons, though I'd never heard that specific fact about sihks. I pictured it as part of our aura, the length of hair somehow intensefying or broadening our auras, while cut hair causes a smaller, incomplete sort of aura, meaning you'd be less healthy and happy. Interesting how that belief was out there all along (in a way).
It was started by Guru Nanak. In the 1980's miner's strike in the UK, a very critical event in recsnt UK history which determined the future of union power to a large extent, the Sikh community were one of the few groups to provide any organized support for the miners. They fed both them and their families. So in my book, they're ok just for having done that.
Sikhs will deal with people and issues mainstream society does not want to touch. Always been that way.
lol... When I was a kid, my friends and I called my long hair Good Luck Hair. I cut it all off when I turned 18 though, still love metal
They take part in huge party in which they cook for everyone for free They are raised as fighter, to protect themselves against others They wear a beautiful bent dagger, but dangerous also They are experts in breeding and riding horses I saw a show on TV about their life, was great It was about a father raising his son, interesting They perform in martial arts to entertain people who like to watch and well umm They have fun...
lol they arent all martial artists trained fighters wearing daggers thats an old custom id imagine is not very common in the more alternative sikh groups the sikh I know, Siri Gian Singh, wears all white and always has on a white turban and is the funniest most enlightening man I ever met!
