i put animal rights because thats what actually got me to stop eating animals, i started to feel sick thinking that i was actually just eating an animal and that i was de-sensitized in the past, but i have learnt a lot about the damage to the environment since i have became a veggie and it has given me soooo many more reasons to be a veggie the whole of my life, and also i am in quite a spiritual zone at the moment and i personally beleive that the way humans consume animals in not a pleasing sight to anybody looking in on us whether that be God or whatever you perceive is out there

    peace and love michael x

went with other cause grossedoutnes wasn't an option...it then turned into animal rights as I went along..goes through phases of being healthier as loads do and being shown it is possible by parents that worked with it rather than against it...
    :)
okies...other was totally the best option I have concluded!
    ;)

yes, and this is the "ignorance" factor in the whole meat eating debate, as im sure every veg*n would agree to? like i said, even if it sounds sh******y and rude, the truth is still it all comes fundamentally down to either ignorance, greed, or addiction. now i didnt think this subforum was here only for the omnis, just to piss them off, i thought it was for the vegs to talk and vent with each other, otherwise if my mission in this subforum was to be cool to omnis and try to convert them, which im not, then my attitude would be a lil different...

i had ''fear'' in mind when i wrote this post, more than pure ''ignorance''. maybe combination of those two. i don't preach my life style to omnis, only if they ask me politely for my reasons i'll talk about it.

really you think fear is a big factor? i can remember back to my omni days, it was only the 3 i said, but never fear... but maybe fear would have only been an issue if i chose to still be ignorant and addicted... otherwise i coud not imagine why otherwise... still i think the adiiction, greed and ignorance would still be the underlying factor for the fear that would result in alot of the omni "excuses" and what not... fear cant be quite as fundamental of a reason for still being omni i say...

i had in mind mostly fear of parents for children's health. fear have great role in today advertising and product-lobbying. is your breath stinking in bus without winterfresh chewing gum? are you gonna die from bacterials if toilet seat is not washed with our extra strong product? will your child be able to concentrate on studying without all that good stuff from meat products, or else will end without education, homeless, ill, drafted, criminal, gang-member, watch it all tonight on news?

i think the fear should only be legitamate, IF the threat was REAL... otherwise it really does come down to just silly misguided misinformation that leads to other silly things, such as fear... as a byproduct of ignorance...

unfortunatelly, fear is not allways rational. rational fear is defence mechanism imprinted in survival instinct. in consumer society irrational fears are often feeded and expanded by well-studied projects. best results are reached in targeting people's desires (note - not needs, but desires) and fears. two basic fears are in humans: animal, self-preserving fear (death and pain - ''scrub that toilet with more and more potent stuff or you'll die from some colorful and bizarre disease'') and fear from rejection (if you don't use desodorant to the point of paranoia you can be sniffed-out in elevator and become object of snickering) and non-belonging (you must own all cool stuff other people have or be marked as outcast and weirdo).

i don't blame fish for been catched in net...

I have been a vegetarian for 179 days now. Pretty proud of that. I am a vegetarian for health reasons mostly, but also because the thought of eating something that was once living now sickens me. hmm i really want to go full vegan but i think that is gonna be a lot harder than going vegetarian was. :(

hmmm... wondering... animal rights? are you sure? and tell me what health reasons definately. a balanced diet is one thing, diet restrictions (abstaining from certain proteins and amino) can be dangerous, especially in developing bodies like many of you. i honor your right to chose, but curious that its well thought out and carefully planned diets. and back to the health thing, what is unhealthy about eating meat (and im not talking unconscious food or dead food like mcdonalds). also, is any one working with eating right for your blood type?

well theres nothing wrong with liking both. its balance. i live in a highly vegetarian community, well, it used to be, until everyone started getting sallow and enemic. the people i know who are vegetarian like to corner off together like its some club or elite thing, i have to scoff at it sometimes. certainly not implying people shoud gorge on beef all day, but nothings better than lemon pepper salmon, couscous with steamed brocoli and a radicio salad. thats a perfect meal, to me anyway.
i think people are confused and need to learn how to transmute their foods and make it useful to their bodies, and be grateful. i think vegetarian can be smart, but usually its not. (imo)

I put Religious reasons, altho0ugh it was a close tie between that and Animal Rights.

I try to be as good a Buddhist as possible, and that involves having mercy and compassion for all living things- including the ones people only see as "Dinner". But I also did it because I love animals and can't bear to have their death on my conscience.

Animals are my friends- and I don't eat my friends.

I've been vegetarian for 122 days (that equals about 17 weeks, or around 4 months 9 days)

    ~Peace
