Confessions and grim realities

    Back in the day, I used to be quite the striking figure. 6'4, 220 pounds and facial hair that didn't quit. I could defeat my enemies with a flurry of blows, or prefferably trap them in a lock and grind them into powder. I was a supervillian worthy of note, a gentleman and a scholar. that was 2001

    Since then my life has spiraled out of control. Like a helicopter on crack, I crashed into a mountain and awoke to find my familliar surroundings gone, and myself half dead form exhaustion.

    Today I'm more mentaly stable, less depressed, and looking to become a champion again. Right now I'm 6'4 and 260 pound! Holy fuck I got fat!

    So that's about a 20% desired weight loss, 1-2 pounds per week.
    here's the plan
    Calisthenics daily
    Stretching daily
    Running or machine work 4 times a week
    Weights 2-3 times a week.
    Limmit my intake to 1800 callories, most of that from vegetables and rice

    By december 31st I want to be down to 250 minimum. That's a pound a week.

    So boys and girls, Anyone want to take bets on if I'll maintain some level of expectation in myself, and do it? I make this a public announcement rather that a personal change ,because I think havingsneaky hippies watching my back may help.

    Anyways, have a goods one!

    Destro, I believe you can do it because from what I can tell, and albeit I don't know you very well, but you seem to be pretty into fitness in general. You know what you should be doing and how to reach your goals. However, the only concern that I would have for you is the calorie intake for someone your size who is exercising so much. Where did you come up with 1800 just curious. I think you should definitely be eating more because of the increased physical activity. Just my opinion though.

    In any event good luck and please keep us all posted on your results. :)

    I've noticed that my caloric neeeds are lower than what wone would exxpect for someone my size. 1800 calories of well selected food is about as much as I can eat. Funnny how much garbage food we can eat. So why 1800? because it's about what I need. I find my hunger onnce i 'm active, becomes pretty self regulating.

    Hmmm.. very interesting. It is quite true if you have a better quality of food in your diet then you can keep your calorie intake low. I just wanted to make sure you had a reason for your numbers. You know there are so many people out there who think they can get by on little calories, increase exercise and lose weight, and they end up either gaining weight, or starving themselves. However, I think you know what you are doing.

    I appreciate your observations. I agree that making changes without much research is ussualy asking for trouble. How long was your certificate program? I'm currently in my 2nd year of a 4 year kinesiology degree.

    congratulations on making a commitment to yourself. I know how it feels to look up one day and be surprised at where you are and what you look like, I'm glad you took it the right way. =) I am in the process of losing 20-25 lbs. I started at 166 and I am currently down to about 158-160 after 6-8 weeks or more.... good luck!!

    I think a pound a week is a far better measure for most people than setting the 2 pound maximum and just getting pissed off with yourself.

    Guess what? This is going to be my exercise Blog.
    This week my partner ended up in hospital and has been having some sort of break down. Hooray!

    Inspite of that, I've kept my diet on track, and have managed to get about half the work outs I'd like in. Something is better than nothign right?
    On the upside, after tonight i have no projects due for 2 weeks :D

    Hooray for my keg!
    I have a keg, I lift it. Sad thing Iron goth is probably the only person who's going to get that. Yesterday I lifted it over head, did some caries, just general fun. I think once I get some coin together i'm going to get myself another sand bag. Those are fun.

    258 - 2 pounds gone
    I have a schedule for my work outs, each one immediately after my classes. I should be able to kepe this up until christmas break pretty easily.

    I found old recors from when i was an athlete in the royal Canadian UnArmed forces. Yes, I can kil you with my bare hands, or could if I were still fast...

    Anyways, The results were plotted into some softwar, and told me that
    My highest level of Muscle to fat mass was when i was wrestling full time and banging highschool girls (in highschool). There after the next best score was In university a year ago, before things went to hell. interesting to note the decline of fitness after highschool, and the suddden DROP in the last year.

    On the upside, I have a goal weight . Long term goal - 210 - 200
    Short term goal 250.
    We'll see how i do on thursday, it's been a good week.

    a long time ago i wieged 140 at 5 11 and ive wieghed between 150 n 175 for many years ....if i did that ...any fool can .....much luck n keep yer sense of humor .

    Unrelated to the previous post, I thought I'd share a parrable. Yesterday a ccar neeeded moving. There were three men in addition to myself. I thought this is silly, There are three men, and two femen here. Surely they can handle a car, and so I went home. Sure enough, I received a call 10 minutes latter that they could not make it budge. Fine, I hurried over, and aarrived to fine one men and one femen at the car. The femen steered while the other men and I Pulled the car out of a garage. The other two came round a corner. I told them they were stupid, and demanded that they move the car.

    They did not. Even with the help of the men who helped me the three of them could not move this car. I belittled them and demandedthat they learn how to deadlift their own body weight as a starting point, and then helped to pus hthe car to it's final destination.

    Moral of the story. be a stronger men and femen than the ones in my story. Use the deadlift and squat to give yourself the strength of two ordinary men.
    (Note these guys while not athletic are not sickly, or small. the avg heigh that day including my own was 6 foot 2 inches. Be strong my friends)

    45 male and i dont know ...cause ive lived a challenging and punitave adventure id say 33 for a guess ....my grandfather lived to 103 .

    i'd eat mroe calories..you should probably be eating closer to 2500-2700 calories a day. It is quite easy to eat more than 1800 calories. Throw in some milk/whole wheat bread and fruit and you'll get there in no time. Also, make sure you're getting enough protein so you're not losing muscle. You want to lose only fat.

    Who cares if you weigh a lot less if you still have a lot of fat/little muscle? You wont look good. So make sure you eat right and do a lot of weight training.

    Makno - Thanks for the info. interesting knowledge :)

    Megara - So Far things are going well. I'm not feeling fatigued, and my ability to lift weights and over all endurance are increasing. if it's not broken....

    for my birthday I decided to do some maximum lifts. The results were pleasing, and despite not lifting weights much in the past... too fucking long... My strength is still decent. My bench press was the only lift that was noticeably lower. No complaints right now.

    For my birthday I also made some purchases because I'm a conssumerist whore.
    two 25 pound plates for my bar
    two olympic gauge dumbbell handles
    one skin fold caliper

    The weights were helpful in testing my dead lift, and the other two should be here in a week or two :) Also.. I discovered I am SHORTER than previoussly thought. Damn it. Could i have lost an inch of height due to very heavy compressive lifts yesterday? I could have sworn I was 6'3...
    However that measure (6'3) was before I started shaving my head.

    Well Looks like I'll meeet my ennd of year goal beefore the end ofthe year. I wonder iff 240 is Viable. I've ordered some calipers so i can do proper BF% measures. I'm somewhhat worried about the results. To give some perspective here's the past fat information...

    2002 - 245 pounds 26% bf
    2004 - 238 pounds 20% BF

    looks like a healthy body weight of 205-215. Assuming I haven't lost too much muscle mass due to my mired depression. Using the aabove I can estimate a BF% of 30% pretty gross. Whatever. we'll wait for the calibers then star setting some real goals.
