Hippy vs. Yuppy

    I have books on the 60's and have seen and heard the name yuppy being used in conjunction with hippy folk what is a yuppy? Is it just another name for hippy? [​IMG]

    Back in the 80's Yuppies was short for "Young Urban Professional". The reason Yuppies are associated with Hippies is because many Yuppies were formally Hippies. Yuppies were essentially the wannabee Hippies, the ones who got into it because it was the cool thing to do at the time. Of course these wannabees soldout to disco fever and eventually the republican party.

    Yah i thought it was a young urban professional. the rich snobs who still claim to agree with the hippy ideas

    Yuppies were the people who were hippies in the 60's and 70's but joined the establishment by the late 70's. They are young (30's), urban professionals. They were part of the more socially and fashionably conservative 80's.

    Yuppy = Young Urban Proffesionals
